(1)   Over K 3.4 million donated for construction of five-storey building for School for the Blind of MCFB

YANGON, 14 July - A cash donation ceremony for construction of a five-storey building for Khawegyan School for the Blind of Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind was held at the school here this morning.

It was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Chief of Staff (Navy) Capt Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Vice-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander Col Hsan Hsint, OSD to the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint, Joint Secretary U Kyi Win and officials of Yangon City Development Committee, officials of MCFB and well-wishers.

(2)   Fishery development and meat and fish production and distribution coordinated

YANGON, 14 July - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the coordination meeting on fishery development and meat and fish production and distribution at the Fisheries Department on Hsinmin Street, Ahlon Township, at 1 pm today.

The meeting was also attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein Chief of Staff (Navy) Capt Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Director of Signals Col Aung Myint, Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein, Officer on Special Duty at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint, department heads and guests.

(3)   Minister inspects mines, industrial raw material Production sites

YANGON, 14 July - Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint went on an inspection of mines and industrial raw materials production sites in southern Shan State, Mandalay Division and Bago Division from 9 to 14 July.

He was accompanied by Managing Director of No 1 Mining Enterprise Col Saw Lwin, Acting Managing Director of No.3 Mining Enterprise U Hsan Tun and Superintending Engineer of Planning and Inspection Department U Myint Kyi. The minister and party first inspected iron ore deposits in Hopong Township in Taunggyi District on 10 July. They were briefed on the time and site for producing iron ore on commercial scale. The minister gave counsel.

They next went to the Geology and Mineral Exploration Department Branch Office in Taunggyi and discussed staff welfare and repair and renovation of buildings.

(4)   Yangon Division USDA opens Advanced Computer Course

YANGON, 14 July - A ceremony to open Advanced Computer Course, sponsored by Yangon Division Union Solidarity and Development Association, was held at Yangon Division USDA office on Saya San Road in Bahan Township at 9 am today.

Present were Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Patron of Yangon Division USDA Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Secretary-General of USDA Minister for Education U Than Aung, Secretary of USDA Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Central Executive Committee members Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister at the Office of Prime Minister U Than Shwe, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Acting Secretary of Yangon Division USDA U Tin Maung Win and executives, secretaries and executives of district and township USDAs, Course In-Charge U Myint Hsaung and instructors of the Institute of Computer Science and Technology and trainees.

(5)   Company commander of KNU exchanges arms for peace

YANGON, 14 July - The remnants of armed groups, realizing the true goodwill and correct deeds of the Government and the fact that the destructive acts did not benefit the country, are exchanging arms for peace individually or in groups.

Company Commander Henry of Battalion No.2, Brigade No.1 of KNU, bringing one M-16 automatic rifle, two magazines and 96 cartridges, exchanged arms for peace in the region

South-East Command on 24 June.

He was warmly welcomed by officials of the command, who attended to his needs.

(6)   Minister inspects Ngaphyugalay Paddy Purchase Depot in Thayawady Township

YANGON, 14 July - Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than inspected Ngaphyugaiay Paddy Purchase Depot in Thayawady Township this morning.

Accompanied by Managing Director U Saw Aung of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading and officials, the minister oversaw movement of purchased paddy to the warehouses and purchase, transport, storage and distribution of paddy at the depot, where he was welcomed by Manager U Htay Maung and officials.

In giving instructions, the minister said paddy production of the country is adequate not only for local consumption but also for export due to success of monsoon and summer paddy cultivation despite decrease in production of crops throughout the world.

He stressed the importance of systematic storage and milling of paddy and spoke of the need to systematically repair warehouses so as to store paddy and other crops well this year.

The minister donated 100 bags of cement and K 500,000 for construction of a wall of the Minkyaung Sarthintaik in Thayawady and offertories to Sayadaw U Sanvara Bodhi of the Sarthintaik.

(7)   Three ambulances, a pediatric refractometer for Ministry of Health

YANGON, 14 July - Myanmar Industries of Nature Association, a non-Governmental Organization of Japan, donated three ambulances and a pediatric refractometer to the Ministry of Health at the ministry this evening.

Representative Mr M Kitasaka of MINA handed the donations.  Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein accepted the donations, and presented a certificate of honour to the donor.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo and officials of the ministry.

(8)   Premier Petroleum Myanmar United donates 1,500 FECs for kidney transplant programme

YANGON, 14 July - A ceremony to donate cash for kidney transplant programme was held at the Ministry of Health on Pyidaungsu Yeiktha at 2.30 pm today.

Dr Richard Jones of Medical, Socio-Economic Security Myanmar of Premier Petroleum Myanmar Limited donated 1,500 FECs for the kidney transplant programme.

Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein accepted the donation and presented certificate of honour to the donor.

Present were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials of the ministry.

(9)   Deputy Minister inspects wharf project in Pathein

YANGON, 14 July - Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, accompanied by Managing Director Col Thein Htay of Myanma Port Authority and officials, inspected construction of Wedaunt Wharf in Pathein on 12 July.

The deputy minister also oversaw functions of Pathein Township MPA Office and gave instructions.

On 13 July, the deputy minister inspected the cultivated area of the ministry near Phayani Village in Pathein Township and Offices of Township MPA Manager in Myaungmya and Wakhema townships and gave instructions to earn much income and to render service for the convenience of travellers.

(10) Heroin seized in Muse Township

YANGON, 14 July - A team comprising members of the regional intelligence unit, special drug squad and Tatmadawmen of regional battalion, acting on a tip-off, conducted a surprise check on vehicles on the motor road near Hsaikkhaung Village, Muse Township, on 22 June morning.

A soap box containing 0.015 kilo of heroin wrapped with plastic was found in the underwear of Sai Aung Win, who was a passenger of white Van (La/4676).  According to further information, he purchased the heroin from Ma Nang Bauk with the contact of Ma Tomwi of Hsaikkhaung Village, Muse Village, and the team raided their houses.

Though no heroin was seized at the house of Ma Tomwi, she was found and arrested.

Ma Nang Bauk got away, and K 30,000, proceeds from drug sales, were confiscated at her house.

Muse Township Police Force opened a case, and action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(11) MIC Chairman receives President of Showa Highpolymer

YANGON, 14 July - Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received President Mr Buntaro Kawase and party of Showa Highpolymer Co Ltd of Japan at his office at 3 pm today.

Also present were Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials.

(12)  Deputy Prime Minister receives Chairman of Pacrim Energy

YANGON, 14 July - Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Chairman Mr Sir Barry Holloway and party of Pacrim Energy NL of Australia at his office at 9:30 am today.
