(1)   Primary schools in Kamayut Township get new buildings

YANGON, 7 July - Ceremonies to hand over a renovated building of Basic Education Primary School No.6 and a new building Basic Education Primary School No.11 were held at the respective schools in Kamayut Township this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin  Nyunt.

The ceremony to hand over the renovated building of BEPS No.6 was held in Uyin Street, Ward-10, Kamayut Township, this morning.

Present also were Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint, officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, department heads district and township authorities, the director-general of Basic Education Department and officials township education officers Headmistress Daw Khin Khin Than and teachers, members of the Union Solidarity and Managing Director of ASPIDIN Co Ltd U Zaw Myo Naing and officials.

U Zaw MyU Naing explained about general renovation of the school building at a cost of over three million kyats.

Then, U Zaw Myo Naing and wife Daw Aye Aye Mar donated K 100,000 for the school funds and K 30,000 for school uniforms of teachers, which Headmistress Daw Khin Khin Than accepted.

Later, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the school building.

The ceremony to hand over the new building of BEPS No.11 was held in Padamya Street, Ward-1 Kamayut Township.

Present were Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, the deputy commander, department heads, district and township authorities, the director-general of BED, township education officer, Headmaster U Thein Swe Han and teachers, USDA members,

Managing Director of National Land (Ygn) Co Ltd U Win Sein and officials.

U Win Sein explained about construction of the new school building at a cost of over seven million kyats.

Then, U Win Sein donated K 100,000 for the school funds and K 30,000 ,for the school uniforms of teachers, which headmaster U Thein Swe Han accepted.

Later, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the school building.

In meeting teachers at the ceremonies, the Secretary-1 said that with the leadership of the Government and active participation of construction entrepreneurs, buildings of primary schools in Yangon Division are being renovated and added as a result, school children can purse their education in a peaceful atmosphere.

He called on teachers to instil school children with a sense of patriotic and nationalist spirit and to nurture them to be worthy sons and daughters of the nation.

(2)   211 in-service disabled Tatmadawmen enjoy long-term benefits

YANGON, 7 July - The Thanmyanthu Enterprise presented cash assistance for the 25th time to in-service Tatmadawmen who sacrificed their limbs at the City Hall here at 1 pm today and Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo delivered an address.

Also present were Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief  and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Senior Military officer on Special Duty at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and departmental personnel, donors and the Tatmadawmen who have sacrificed their limbs.

First, Lt-Gen Tin Oo delivered an address.  He said cash assistance has been presented regularly without fail to Tatmadawmen who have sacrificed their limbs and eyes while discharging national defence duties in the front areas and so far, he said, long-term assistance is being presented to 211 disabled Tatmadawmen and K 6,000 each is presented on temporary basis to 1,511 Tatmadawmen whose turn has not arrived to enjoy long-term benefits.  He disclosed that plans are under way to provide similar cash assistance for the remaining tatmadawmen.  He them thanked the thanmyanthu Enterprise and donors for their generosity and attendance in person to donate cash.  He noted that in discharging national defence duties upholding Our Three Main National Causes, some of the Tatmadawmen sacrificed their lives and some their limbs.  After sacrificing their limbs, he said, they continue to carry out appropriate duties assigned to them.  To ensure that they do not face difficulties in future, he said, the Tatmadaw has provided them with vocational training and promoted them in accordance with rules and discipline so that they can enjoy greater benefits.

The Tatmadaw constantly takes care of the future of disabled Tatmadawmen and at the same time, Lt-Gen Tin Oo said, the goodwill of well-wishers who have always been donating cash is great beyond compare.  He told the disabled Tatmadawmen that the Directorate of Resettlement, with close guidance of the Office of the Adjutant-General, has always been endeavouring to raise funds through engaging proper undertakings to enable the disabled Tatmadawmen to enjoy the long-term benefits.  He urged them to make the most beneficial use of skills and cash assistance.  He also called on them to play a possible role in undertaking nation-building tasks and strive for self-improvement to be able to lead a better life.  Then only will they become sacrificing heroes desired by the nation, he said.

Lt-Gen Tin Oo spoke of the need for the well-wisher entrepreneurs engaged in various economic sectors to try to achieve successes in order to strengthen the nation.  He said such efforts would then contribute toward development of industries, export-oriented businesses, trade and commerce and agriculture leading then to the rise in the standard of living.  He also urged them to uphold Our Three Main National Causes with the Union spirit and patriotism along with the Tatmadaw.

He cited remarkable success achieved in construction projects and all-round development tasks implemented by the government.  The entire public is to join hands with the Tatmadaw to keep up the achievement.  Then only will the desired peaceful, prosperous, modern and developed nation be built speedily, he said.

Next, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Mayor U Ko Lay, Minister Col Tin Hlaing and Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone also spoke.

Then followed cash donation ceremony.

Donations were: K 2 million and a photo copier worth K 500,000 donated by Mr Chaow of Gold UNI Investment Co Ltd and wife Daw Shwe Zin, son Maung Min Than Oo (Si Wa Korn), Maung Kyaw Kyaw Htet (Tanapon) and daughter Mya Ei Nanda Kyaw (Si Wa Kan), K 600,000 by U Tin Win and Daw Sann Win (KN Co), K 123,000 by Agga Maha Siri Sudhamma Singi Daw Hse (Ngwe Hse Co) of Mandalay, K 100,000 each by Thanmyanthu Motor Transport (Mawlamyine) and Pyi Sone Disabled Industrial Producers Co-operative Society (Bamaw Branch), K 91,220 by General Manager of Swe Myanmar Petroleum Products Trading Maj Soe Hlaing (Retd), K 60,000 by U Sein Win and Siri Sudhamma Singi Daw Myint Myint Yi, K 50,000 by Mr Shao Li Yuan of CVC Co, People's Republic of China, K 20,000 by U Kyin Sein and Daw Than Than Nyunt and family, and K 10,000 each by Daw Win Win Nu (Golden Home Aluminium Trading), Moemakha Motor Transport, TN Transport and Yangon North District Motor Vehicles Control Committee.
 
Afterwards Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Lt-Gen Win Myint, officials and well-wishers presented account books and cash assistance to disabled Tatmadaw members.

Responsible personnel also presented cash donated by Swe Myanmar Petroleum Products Trading to 50 disabled veterans and cash donated by Thanmyanthu Enterprise to Mary Chapman School for the Deaf, Insein Khawegyan School for the Blind, Kyimyindine School for the Blind and Adults Training School for the Disabled.

After the ceremony, Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Lt-Gen Win Myint and officials met wellwishers and disabled Tatmadawmen.

(3)   Minister for Health receives Chairman of Myanmar-Daewoo

YANGON, 7 July - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein received Chairman Mr Gil Yong Um and party of Myanmar-Daewoo Ltd at his office at 2:30 pm today.

They discussed supplying of medical equipment.

Present also were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials.

(4)   Opium, stimulants seized in Kyukok (Pangsang), Myawady

YANGON, 7 July - Acting on a tip-off, members of Defence Services Intelligence Unit, regional battalion, Special Anti-Drug Squad and Myanmar Police Force searched van 2Ka/ 1824, driven by Aik San, 21, son of U Maung Hsai, at Phaunghsai checkpoint in Kyukok (Pangsang) Township at 11:15 am on 20 June.

The authorities seized opium weighing three kilos packed by banana leaves from the rucksack of Chein Kyauk Hon (a) Chein Yon, 28, son of U Chein Kwan, lived in Ward 2, Mongko.

Similarly, members of Defence Services Intelligence Unit, while discharging the duty at Kyauktan checkpoint in Myawady Township at 1 pm, searched the two suspicious Aik Myint (a) Maung Maung Oo, 27, son of U Aye Maung, and Phan Yu Da, 29, son of U Kya Pwa, and seized 59,800 stimulants tablets from their two bags.

Action is taken against the culprits under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(5)   Export Import Procedure Course No.11 conducted

YANGON, 7 July - Export Import Procedure Course No.11 for Entrepreneurs was opened at the Ministry of Commerce on Strand Road here this morning.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Deputy Ministers Commodore Myo Tint and Col Kyaw Shwe, advisers and heads of departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Maj-Gen Kyaw Than said officials of organizations dealing with international trade will give lectures on export and import procedures at the course.

He spoke of the need to correctly and effectively use foreign exchange of the country as directed by the State level officials, saying knowledge on international trade is being disseminated to entrepreneurs through conducting courses like the present one.

He urged trainees to learn subjects at the course with keen interest not only for the self interest but also for the interest of the nation.

Altogether 100 trainees - 72 from the private sector and 28 from departments are attending the course.

(6)   First quarterly coord meeting of Ministry of Information concludes

YANGON, 7 July - The first quarterly coordination meeting for fiscal 1998-99 of the Ministry of Information was held for the second and last day in the conference room of The New Light of Myanmar on Strand Road this morning, attended by Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung.

Present also were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Managing Director of Printing and Publishing Enterprise U Than Maung, Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise U Tin Kha, Managing Director of Information and Public Relations Department Lt-Col Chit Naing Director-General of Myanmar Radio and Television U Khin Maung Htay, Managing Director of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise Col Bo Kyi, Adviser to the MRTV U Kyi Lwin, Economic Adviser to the Ministry of Information U Hla Kyin, Head of Office U Khin Maung Myint and officials, directors of departments and enterprises under the ministry, chief editors, accounts officers and managers.

(7)   Myanmar Travel Show initiates boosting tourist arrivals from Singapore

YANGON, 7 July - Direct meetings between Myanmar entrepreneurs and Singaporean tourism  services and Singaporeans at Myanmar Travel Show has led to initiation of tour arrangements for more Singaporeans and tourists to the island nation to visit Myanmar.

Organized by a Myanmar delegation comprising officials and 63 representatives of 38 hotel and tourism services, the show was held at Shangrila Hotel Singapore on 3 and 4 July.

The opening ceremony on 3 July was addressed by Ambassador of Myanmar to Singapore U Myo Myint, followed by leader of the delegation Director-General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Latt's clarifications on points of Myanmar's tourism industry.

Senior Director Ms Pamela Lee of Singapore Tourism Board also gave a speech.

Guests including the ambassadors of Laos, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, officials of STB, tourism entrepreneurs of Singapore and businessmen who have invested in Myanmar visited the exhibition.

This is the first Myanmar's tourism promotion campaign held in a foreign nation to boost arrivals.

Plans are under way to organize such shows in other neighbouring nations, including Thailand.

The delegation arrived back here on 5 July.

(8)   Minister for Industry-l meets factory managers of States and Divisions

YANGON, 7 July - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung met factory managers of States  and Divisions at the ministry on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning.  They discussed boosting of production.

Also present were Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Col Than Zin, heads of departments and officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister U Aung Thaung said the nation is practising thrift and making endeavours to boost production of local-made goods, and the ministry is producing and distributing foodstuff and personal goods to meet the requirements of the nation.

He called on factory managers to be economical in its expenditure in accordance with the State policies, to strive for production of import substitutes and to seek raw materials from the local sources

Factory managers are required to follow directives of their superiors and to work with good conviction, he said, adding that every service personnel has to stay aloof from party politics, not to lose sight of domestic and international situations and to be loyal to the State, the people and the ministry.

He said internal axe-handles are plotting to destroy the country under the influence of some foreign countries, and service personnel have to strive for development of the nation with patriotism, opposing and crushing those destructive elements.
