(1)   General Maung Aye arrives Bahtoo Tatmyo

YANGON, 3 July - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye left here by Tatmadaw aircraft for Heho in Shan State (South) yesterday afternoon.

General Maung Aye was accompanied by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister at the Office of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Min Thein, Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Military Appointment-General Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe Defence Services Inspector-General Brig-Gen Win Myint, Director of Military Engineers Brig-Gen Win Aung Tint, Ambassador of Myanmar to Vietnam U Khin Soe, officials of the Office of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and heads of departments.

They were welcomed at Heho Airport by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Brig-Gen Maung Bo, Brig-Gen Kyaw Win of Phekhon Station, Col Thein Lwin of Loilem Station, Deputy Commander of Eastern Command Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials.

General Maung Aye and party proceeded to Bahtoo Tatmyo in Yaksauk Township where they were welcomed by Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Commandant of Combat Training School and Commander of Bahtoo Station Brig-Gen Moe Hein, Commandant of Officer Training School Brig-Gen Aung Kyi and officials.

(2)   Myanmar Women's Day observed

YANGON, 3 July - A ceremony to observe Myanmar Women's Day organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs was held at the International Business Centre this morning, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

YANGON, 3 July - The conclusion ceremony of Special Refresher Course No.31 for Basic Education Teachers was held at Nawarat Hall in Central Institute of Civil Service in Hlegu Township Yangon Division this morning, with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

(4)   Tatmadaw columns seize heroin, opium, arms in Kutkai Township

YANGON, 3 July - A combined group including members of military columns, Defence Services Intelligence Unit, Myanmar Police Force and Lashio Special Anti-Drug Squad led by Tactical Operations Commander of North-East Command Col Than Maung raided the houses of U Wan Kwe Shin and U Bong Khaw in Loikham Village, Kutkai Township, northern Shan State, on 27 June.

The group nabbed nine persons - Lauk Yin, son of U Law Shwe, Ah Su, son of U Ah Chan, Lauk Su, son of U Lauk Ei, Ah Lei, son of U Chan Chein, Kw Wei, son of U Law Chin, Ap Hte, son of U Lauk Chein, Mar Tu, son of U Lauk Ta, Ap Hsan, son of U Yan Lauk San, and Phu Lint son of U Ta Shwe-with narcotic drugs, chemicals and arms from the houses.

These narcotic drugs included heroin weighing 27.35 kilos, opium weighing 1,839.4 kilos, brown opium powder weighing 4.85 kilos, 221 gallons of Lysol, 2,760 kilos of sodium hydroxide, 4,280 kilos of sodium carbonate, 128 gallons of acetic anhydride, 20 liters of hydrochloric acid, 80 drums of sodium metal, 19 bags of bone charcoal powder and paraphernalia.

The authorities seized three M-20 pistols, four M21s, one HK-33 and one BA-72, totaling nine assorted arms with two grenades, and Hilux 7Ka/5702, K 9,254,400 and four walkie-talkies.

Action is taken against the culprits under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Lashio Special Anti-Drug Squad.

(5)   Agreement on granting Yen 800 million signed

YANGON, 3 July - Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Brig-Gen Abel and Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai signed an agreement today.

According to the agreement, the Japanese Government will provide a grant aid of Y 800 million for boosting food production.

The grant aid will be used to purchase fertilizers and agricultural machinery with a view to boosting food production in the border areas of Myanmar.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun, Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, officials of Japanese Embassy and Myanmar officials concerned.

(6)   Minister for Industry-1 receives CE of China National Complete Plant Exp&Imp Wuhan

YANGON, 3 July - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received Chief Engineer Mr Zhang Huimin and party of China National Complete Plant Export & Import Wuhan Corporation at his office at 2 pm today.

Present also were Director-General U Win Zaw Nyunt of the Directorate of Industries, Director-General U Tin Hlaing of the Regional Industrial Cooperation and Industrial Inspection Department and Managing Director U Zaw Sein Win of the Myanma Paper and Chemical Enterprise and Director U Ngwe Thaw.

(7)   Photo copier donated to Myanmar Karatedo Federation

YANGON, 3 July - Karatedo instructor Mr Yoshizo Tatetsu of Japan Karatedo Federation, who had trained Myanmar selected Karatedo athletes for one year under the arrangement of Japan Foundation, donated a Sharp photo copier valued at FEC 1,650 to be used for development of Karatedo standard in Myanmar at the Office of the President of Myanmar Karatedo Federation yesterday evening.

Present also were President of MKF Police Col Khin Maung Tun, Secretary General Staff Officer of the Sports and Physical Education Department U Soe Win, executives and guests.

Police Col Khin Maung Tun spoke on the occasion and Police Col Khin Maung Tun accepted the donation and thanked the donor.
