(1)   State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe accepts credentials Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

YANGON, 2 July - Mr Amar Hafeez newly accredited Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Union of Myanmar, presented his credentials to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 10 am today.

Also present on the occasion were State Peace and Development Council Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.

(2)   MIC Chairman receives MD of Keck Engg Industries

YANGON, 2 July - Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Managing Director Mr Sam Tan and party of Keck Engineering Industries Pte Ltd of Singapore at his office at 2.30 pm today.

Present also were Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials.

(3)   Myanmar Travel Show to be held in Singapore

YANGON, 2 July - Myanmar Travel Show will be held in Singapore on 3 and 4 July to promote Myanmar's tourism industry and to increase the number of tourist arrivals from Singapore to Myanmar in accordance with the guideline given by Chairman of Tourism Development Management Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Led by Director-General U Khin Maung Latt of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, a delegation comprising 56 entrepreneurs of 34 hotels and tourism services and one enterprise dealing in selling Myanmar arts and crafts left here by air this morning to take part in the show to be held at Shangri-La Hotel.

They will meet entrepreneurs of airlines and travel agencies of Singapore to promote tourism industry between the two countries, to cooperate with air transport services of Singapore for promoting sale of package tours with a special price and to increase the number of tourist arrivals from Singapore to Myanmar.

The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, departmental officials and families of delegation members.

(4)   250 bottles of phensedyl seized in Mandalay

YANGON, 2 July - Acting on a tip off, while waiting at a place between 80th and 23rd & 24th Streets in Aungmyay Thazan Township, Mandalay, at 2 pm on 15 June, members of Defence Services Intelligence Unit nabbed U Tin Win and Ko Paing together with 250 100 ml JJ brand bottles of Phensedyl made in India.

According to the investigation, U Kyaw Nyunt, who kept the phensedyl, of No 28, Daungtaw Ward, between 8th and 80th & 81st Streets, near the compound of Yaynar monastery, and owners of the phensedyl U Win Maung and Ma Nu of between 86th and 17th & 18th Streets, Mawgawiri Ward, Aungmyay Thazan Township, were caught with a motor cycle 1Ya/52566 and proceeds of K 565,000 from the sale of phensedyl.

Action is being taken against the culprits under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by No 9 Police Station of Mandalay.

(5)   MIC Chairman receives MD of Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance

YANGON, 2 July - Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Managing Director Mr Takazumi Kanai and party of Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance Co Ltd of Japan at his office at 3:30 pm today.

Present also were Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials of the Myanma Insurance.

They discussed opportunities of insurance service in Myanmar.

(6)   UDE lectures

YANGON, 2 July - Radio Myanmar will broadcast lectures for students of the University of Distance Education from first to final year arts, law and economic majors on 63.49 metres short wave from 8 to 10 pm on 8 July.

Lectures include Myanmarsar for all first year science majors, Myanmarsar for fourth year Myanmarsar majors, history for fourth year history majors, geography for fourth year geography majors, ancient oriental philosophy for second year philosophy majors, law for first year law majors, law for third year law majors and law for fifth year law majors.

(7)   Mayor of Yangon City receives Ambassador of Italy

YANGON, 2 July - Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay received Ambassador of Italy Dr Cesare Capitani at the Mayor's parlor at 10.30 am today.

Present also were Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, committee members, heads of departments and officials.

(8)   Minister for Energy receives Executive Officer of Premier Oil, GM of Sumitomo Corporation

YANGON, 2 July - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi received Executive Officer of Premier Oil PLC Mr Charles Jamieson of Britain at his office this afternoon.

The minister also received General Manager of Sumitomo Corporation Mr T Takavama of Japan this afternoon.

They discussed energy matters.

Present also were Deputy Ministers for Energy U Tin Tun and Brig-Gen Thein Aung, Director-General of Energy Planning Department U Soe Myint, Managing Director of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise U Kyaw Nyein and Managing Director of Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise U Kyaw Shein.

(9)   Commander of Coastal Region Command tours Palaw Township

YANGON, 2 July - Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, accompanied by officials, inspected construction of road at Kaboattaung 47 miles on 30 June.

The Commander then met local farmers in Palauk Village and gave instructions.

The commander proceeded to primary school in Htaminmasar Village in Palaw Township and met teachers and pupils.

He attended to their needs.

The commander met township departmental officials and farmers at Yadana Hall.

He gave suggestions on paddy cultivation for the region.

The commander and party inspected model paddy farm in Palaw Township on 1 July.

He gave instructions and inspected construction of suspension bridge.
