YANGON, 30 June - Acting on a tip authorities in Mandalay have exposed car brokers who forged documents for unlicenced motor vehicles and those who took hold of and used the vehicles.  According to the tip, car broker Maung Maung Lwin (a) Chit Kaung of Chanaye Thazan Township, son of U Yakub, took motor vehicles which got permission to pass through the country but did not have licences and Ka-Ka taxis from Mandalay to Muse and sold them in China. But from April 1997 onwards he could not sell them as before and so he used them with forged motor vehicle licence books and motor vehicle registration circle cards. The authorities then inspected the 11 motor vehicles being used with forged documents.  After due inspection and scrutiny, it was found that numbers on the car engines and bodies of unlicenced vehicles were tampered with and Licence books and motor vehicle registration circle cards forged.

They were also found to have forged the rubber stamps to be used on the registration books and wheel tax of the Road Administration Department and that they filled the documents up with false material and forged the signatures of the responsible personnel.

They sold the forged registration books and cards for charges ranging from K 500 to K 14,000. (7)   Brokers who enticed Myanmar woman to marry foreigner to go abroad with him exposed

YANGON, 30 June - Visitors of various foreign nations have come to Myanmar as tourists or on business or to carry out religious duties and some of them were reported to have contacted Myanmar brokers engaged in sending Myanmar women abroad.  Then such foreigners married Myanmar women ant took them out of the country. Some of the young Myanmar women, enticed by such brokers, married foreigners and accompanied them when the latter left. Myanmar women who married foreigners to be able to go abroad were reported to have been confronted with problems before they were abroad.  They were also reported to be facing difficulties after they got abroad.  On 14-5-98, Mr Chen Kui Tung, a Taiwanese, came to Myanmar together with fellow citizens of Taiwan U Tin Maung and Daw Hla Phyu, who were born in Myanmar.  The Taiwanese contacted brokers Ma Khin Myat Myat Soe (a) Ma Ei and Ma Nyunt Nyunt Win of Tarmway Township and Assistant Immigration Officer Daw Ohnmar Lwin of Yangon West District Immigration and Population Department as arranged by U Tin Maung and Daw Hla Phyu. Ma Nyunt Nyunt Win was reported to have persuaded her first cousin 19-year-old Ma Khaing Zar that she would be well-off and her parents would be able to live in comfort if she married the Taiwanese. Although the foreigner could not speak a word of Myanmar the Kyimyindine Township Court married him to Ma Khaing Zar on 26-5-98.  The same day Ma Khaing Zar objected to the marriage and filed a complaint at the Tarmway Police Station. She then obtained a divorce at the office of the Patheinnyunt Ward Peace and Development Council in Tarmway Township.  With self-interest in mind, the brokers made another attempt by persuading 23-year-old Ma Win Myat Maw, elder sister of Ma Khaing Zar. Ma Win Myat Maw agreed to the proposal to ease the problem that had arisen because of her sister and for financial reasons.  On 4-6-98, Taiwanese Chen Kui Tung and Ma Win Myat Maw got married at the Office of the Attorney-General.  The two lived in a guest house as husband and wife. Since she no longer wished to go on that way Ma Win Myat Maw left the guest house on 6-6-98.  The same day, she, and her brother Maung Aung Kyaw Khaing were killed near the Pazundaung Railway Station when a train ran over them.

Assistant Immigration Officer Daw Ohmar Lwin of Yangon West District Imrnigration and Population Department secured a passport for the Myanmar women after she had married Taiwanese so that she could accompany the foreigner. She did so after taking a fee.  Ma Nyunt Nyunt Win and Ma Khin Myat Myat Soe were found to have enticed a Myanmar woman to marry a foreigner by taking brokerage fees.  Action will be taken against the brokers who, lacking nationalist spirit and failing to honor national prestige and integrity but giving priority to self- interest, enticed a Myanmar woman to send her abroad with a foreigner, Chen Kui Tung, in spite of the former's being a complete stranger to the latter. Preventive measures will be taken against service personnel who assist similar acts and Myanmar women who give priority to going abroad but fail to safeguard national prestige and integrity.
