YANGON, 29 June - The First Symposium on Information Technology Initiative in Myanmar commenced at the International Business Centre on Pyay Road with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Computer Technology Development Council Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present at the opening ceremony were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, deputy ministers, senior military officers, Director-General of the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col P Nyein, departmental heads, Chairman of Myanmar Computer Scientists' Association U Thein Oo and EC members, Chairman of Myanmar Computer Entrepreneurs' Association U Tin Win Aung and EC members, computer experts and entrepreneurs, observers and participants.

(2)  Secretary-1 inspects sale of teak and hardwood through tender

YANGON, 29 June - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected sale of teak and hardwood through tender and visited Furniture Factory of Myanma Timber Enterprise this morning.

Accompanied by Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay and officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt arrived at Myanma Timber Enterprise Head Office in Ahlon Township at 10:30 am.

They were welcomed there by Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung. Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Deputy Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Soe Myint, Managing Director of Myanma Timber Enterprise U Shwe Baw and officials.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed the process of selling teak and hard wood through tender.

Altogether 64 local and foreign companies are present to buy teak and hardwood through tender.  The Secretary-1 and party also inspected functions of Myanma Furniture Factory and left there.

(3)  Eighth Annual General Meeting of UMEHL

YANGON, 29 June - The Eighth Annual General Meeting of the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd was held at the Tatmadaw Hall on U Wisara Road this afternoon

The meeting was presided over by Chairman of UMEHL Judge Advocate-General Maj-Gen Than Oo and General Manager Major Lay Tin (Retd) emceed.

Present were Military Appointment-General Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Managing Director of UMEHL Brig-Gen Win Hlaing, members of the Board of Directors, officials and guests.

Maj-Gen Than Oo said UMEHL established 47 production and trade enterprises and services during eight years in cooperation with foreign firms in accord with market-oriented economy. These enterprises include 13 in production, eight in trade, seven in services, six in others and 13 businesses being undertaken, he said

He spoke at length on profit and loss of production, banking and services

Reports of the Board of Director and audit were submitted for approval and B" shareholders were then chosen.

The meeting ended with the concluding remarks by Maj-Gen Than Oo.

(4)  Private banks internal remittance agreement signed

YANGON, 29 June - A signing ceremony or private banks internal remittance agreement was held at Hotel Nikko Royal Lake on Natmauk Road in Tamway Township this evening

Present were Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, departmental officials, officials of private banks, private entrepreneurs and guests.

U Kyaw Kyaw Maung spoke on the occasion. Vice-Chairman of Asia Wealth Bank U Aik Tun reported on objectives for signing private internal remittance agreement among private banks. Next, U Aik Tun, Managing Director U Khin Maung of Myanmar May Flower Bank, General Manager U Tun Kyi of Myawady Bank, Chairman U Sein Tun of Myanmar Universal Bank and Vice-Chairman U Kyaw Paing of Yoma Bank signed the agreement.

Representatives of private banks replied queries raised by those present.

(5)  Minister for Industry-2 tours Padaung Township

YANGON, 29 June - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Directors-General, Managing Directors and officials under the ministry, inspected process of X 2000 jeep car production in No 2 Automobile Factory of Myanma Automobile & Diesel Engine Industries in Padaung Township yesterday morning,.

The minister gave instructions.

The minister and party went to No.1 Machine and Factory of Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries in Nyaukchaydauk where General Manager briefed the minister on production of the factory, Director-General of Directorate of Myanma Industrial Planning U Khin Maung and Managing machine Tool and Electrical Industries Col Kyaw Win on their activities.

(6)  Tug-of-War Championship of MTSF Chairperson's Bowl begins

YANGON, 29 June - The Tug-of-War Championship of Myanmar Traditional Sports Federation Chairperson's Bowl as an International Olympic Day Commemorative Movement began at Aung San Stadium this morning.

Among the spectators were Adviser to the Ministry of Sports Col Ngo Ciin Pau, officials of Sports and Physical Education Department, Chairperson of MTSF Daw Mi Mi Khin and executives, chairmen of sports federations, guests and enthusiasts.

First, athletes took designated places.

Then, Daw Mi Mi Khin delivered an opening speech, and formally opened the contest.

The athletes led by Joint Secretary of MTSF U Thein Tun took the four-point oath of sports. At the semifinal of the women's 1,300 pound event, the Ministry of Forestry Team-A beat  Team-B 2-0, and Tatmadaw Textile Factory (Thamaing) beat Rail Transportation 2-0.

At the semifinal of the men's 1,600 pound event, Ministry of Forestry beat SPED 2-0, and Tatmadaw Textile Factory (Thamaing) beat Ministry of Home Affairs 2-0.

At the semifinal of the women's 650 pound event, Rail Transportation beat SPED 2-0, and Ministry of Forestry beat Ministry of Home Affairs 2-0.

At the semifinal of the men's 800 pound event, Ministry of Forestry Team-A beat Tatmadaw Textile Factory (Thamaing) 2-1, and SPED beat Ministry of Home Affairs 2-0.

The finals will be held tomorrow.

(7)  Myanmar delegation arrives back from Havana

YANGON, 29 June - Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo this morning arrived back here after attending the 23rd meeting of Health Ministers of Non-Aligned Nations from 25 to 26 June in Havana, Cuba.

Ministers for Health and Deputy Ministers from 63 countries attended the meeting and they discussed health system reforms in NAM countries, cooperation with developing countries, implementation of reforms in accord with the motto "Health For All By The Year 2000", equally implementation of the health care system to narrow the gap between developed and developing countries in cooperation with NGOs and mutual cooperation among NAM member countries.

(8)  Record book of songs of old composers and biographies to be published

YANGON, 29 June - Arrangements are being made to publish a record book consisting of songs of old composers and their biographies for perpetuation by the Ministry of Information.

The composers include Hledan U Lugalay, Saya Nyan, Minthagyi U Yapyat, YMB Saya Tin, Nandawshay Saya Tin, Shwedaing Nyunt, Dagon Saya Tin, Myoma Nyein, Saya Hnyar, Thahaya Saya Tin, Saya Phaung, Saya Tauk, Mya Kalaung, Yadanabon Maung Su, Shwe Pyi Aye, U Kyin Khe, Jubilee Sein, Sein Wai Lyan, Sagaing Saya Kyi, San Thawda, Yan Naing Sein, Saya Htar, Shwe La MaunU, Shwe Gon Maung, Shwe Nya Maung, Ashaybaing Saya Chit, Pyi Than Nwe, Tekkatho Hla, Guitar Thaung, Saya Thoung, Eyawun U Aung Dun, Saung U Ba Than and Tekkatho Soe. The book also include other composers of different regions and their songs and biographies.

Arrangement is being made to publish the radio talks on Myanmar by Sayagyi U Gonban.  Those who possess songs and biographies of old composers and those who have U Gonban's other talks, manuscripts and books in hand may send them to Director (Broadcasting) U Ko Ko Htwe of Myanma Radio and Television.
