(1)   Myanmar's multi-sectoral, realistic efforts to be rid of hard drugs making progress Rededicates toward drug-free society beginning with drug-free zones, socio-economic uplift

YANGON, 26 June - Prize winners in short story, article, song; poem and cartoon contests on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking were honoured at Aungthabyay Yeyeiktha this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Chairman of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing delivered an address.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented first prize to Ma Khaing Thuzar Win (Khin Le Chit/Myan/Gon), second prize to Captain Kyaw Aung (Shwehtila Aung), third prize to U Hla Win (Hla Win-Bawgabayda) and special prizes to winners in short storey contest in commemoration of Intentional Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Minister Col Tin Hlaing presented first prize to Police Captain Aung Myint (Wuntha Kyaw), second prize to U Htain Win (Moe Htut Khaung), third prize to WO Win Tun (Zeyalin) and special prizes to winners in song contest in commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Mayor U Ko Lay presented first prize to Dr Hla Pe, second prize to U Ngwe Htay (Maung Ngwe Htay Social Welfare), third prize to Police Inspector Saw Sandar Hlaing (Saw Sandar Hlaing) and special prizes to winners in article contest in .commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Deputy Minister for Information- Brig-Gen Aung Thein presented first prize to Police Captain Aung Myint (Taungdwin-Maung Thin Kyaw), second prize to Daw Marla Oo (Marla Oo), third prize to U Htwa Maung (Maung Lun Myaing Pinlebu) and special prizes to winners in poem contest in commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe presented first prize to Ma Thandar Thein Htaik, second prize to Ma Ei Hnin Phyu, third prize to Maung Kaung Myat Min and special prizes to winners in under-12 cartoon contest in commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin presented first prize to Maung Si Thu, second prize to Ma Thet Phyu Win, third prize to Maung Shu Maung and special prizes to winners in over-12 cartoon contest in commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Resident Representative of UNDCP Mr Richard Dickins presented first prize to Cartoon Htay Aung, second prize to cartoon Hla Pe, third prize to Cartoon Maung Maung Lay and special prizes to winners in open division cartoon contest in commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung presented prizes to U Myo Thant (Maung Hsu Shin).

After the ceremony, the ministers and guests viewed the exhibits on drug abuse control activities conducted by CCDAC and various work Committee.

Vice-Chairmen of the CCDAC Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, deputy ministers, officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, heads of department, members of Information Committee of the State Peace and Development Council, Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Joint-Secretary of CCDAC Head of CCDAC Office and Drug Elimination Unit Police Col Ngwe Soe Tun and officials, senior Police officers, diplomats, Resident Representatives of the UN agencies, local and foreign media persons, winners and their relatives and guests were also present.

(2)   Undertakings for uplift of Myanmar women's status must be free of political bias, correspond to national objectives

YANGON, 26 June - The Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs held its Meeting No.2/98 at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement this afternoon, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Labour Vice-Admiral Tin Aye, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe and U Khin Maung Win, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, members of MNCWA and members of the Work Committee, leaders of various working groups, advisors and special guests.

(3)   Secretary-1 visits Myanma Art and Sculpture Exhibition

YANGON, 26 June - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt visited Myanma Art and Sculpture Exhibition at National Museum on Pyay Road this afternoon.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, arrived at the National Museum on Pyay Road at 2:10 pm and was welcomed by Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint, officials of the Department of Cultural Institute and Organizing Committee for Myanma Art and Sculpture Exhibition.

The Secretary-l inspected the paintings and sculptures in the exhibition and gave instructions to the officials.

Fifty-three sculptures and 936 paintings are on display at the exhibition which is under the leadership of Ministry of Culture, and organized by Myanma Traditional Artistes and Artisans Asiayon.  It opens daily from 9 am to 4 pm till 28 June. Admission is free.

Six sculptures, 58 paintings and one harp have been sold at the exhibition to date, fetching over K 3.95 million.

(4)   Leading Committee for Organizing Sixth Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competitions meets

YANGON, 26 June - The Leading Committee for Organizing the Sixth Myanma Traditional Performing Arts Competitions held its first coordination meeting at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street this afternoon.

Chairman of the Leading Committee Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than attended it.

Also present were Vice-Chairman of the Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Chairman of the Work Committee Col Tin Soe and members, chairmen of subcommittees and officials, doyen artistes and guests.

Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than elaborated on the objectives of holding the performing arts competitions.

He called on officials of subcommittees to earnestly carry out their tasks with a view to successfully holding the performing arts competitions, and urged doyen artistes to contribute to the discussions.

The chairmen and officials of various subcommittees reported on the work done and arrangements to be carried out.

The chairman and the vice-chairman of the Leading Committee gave instructions.

Then, those present gave suggestions on holding the competitions.

The meeting ended with the concluding remarks by the chairman.

(5)   Minister for Energy inspects installation of natural gas pipeline in Kanbauk region

YANGON, 26 June - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thein Aung and officials, arrived at Kanbauk Airport, Dawei District, Taninthayi Division, this morning. The minister and party proceeded to Nateindaung region by car. They were welcomed by Chairman Dr Piti Yimprasert and party of PTT Gas International of Thailand at Myanmar-Thai border.

The minister inspected installation of natural gas pipeline through Myanmar-Thai border and installation of equipment in Metering Station.

Moreover, the minister and chairman of PTT Gas International Company discussed supply of natural gas to Thailand and future tasks.

Then, the minister and party went to pipeline centre in Kanbauk region, and inspected installation of equipment to supply natural gas to Thailand and its functions. He gave instruction on work site safety.

(6)   Deputy Ministers meet departmental personnel of Yangon International Airport

YANGON, 26 June - Member of the subcommittee for easy access of tourists Deputy Minister for Immigration and Population U Maung Aung, together with Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, met departmental personnel of Yangon International Airport this morning.

They were accompanied by departmental heads concerned.

Meeting the personnel in Thura Aung Nyunt Hail of the airport, Deputy Minister U Maung Aung said personnel of departments concerned who are as signed duties at the airport will have to cooperate among them for the convenience of passengers whether they are concerned with airport services directly or not.

He told them to strive to meet the set income and to take special care of security.

Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint said there are two main channels for foreign visitors to enter the country by air and by sea.  Yangon International Airport plays a key role in receiving travellers who come here by air.

He also called for coordination and collaboration of departments concerned in carrying out work for airport services.

Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu spoke of the need to make collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, the Ministry of Immigration and Population and the Ministry of Transport in the tasks for promoting tourist arrivals and destinations and for ensuring smooth transport and convenient stay of tourists.

After hearing reports presented by officials, Deputy Minister U Maung Aung gave instructions.

Afterwards, the deputy ministers inspected respective airport services.

(7)   Families of Ministry of Transport donate dry rations to Mon Parivatti Sarthintaik

YANGON, 26 June - Managing Director of Myanma Port Authority and Principal of Institute of Marine Technology and service personnel of the Ministry of Transport donated dry rations and alms to members of the Sangha of Mon Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Botahtaung Township this morning.

(8)   Minister for Industry-l receives Ambassador of Italy, Australian entrepreneurs

YANGON, 26 June - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received Ambassador of Italy Dr Cesare Capitani at his office at 3 pm today.

Similarly, the minister received Director Mr Scott Terrey and party of Scott Terrey & Associates Pty Ltd of Australia at the same venue at 4:30 pm today.

Present also were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Col Than Zin, directors-general and managing directors of the departments and industries under the ministry.

(9)   Minister for Energy receives VP of Delta International

YANGON, 26 June - Minister for Energy BrigGen Lun Thi received vice-president Mr Paul L Blanton Faia and party of Delta International Co at his office this evening.

Present also were Deputy Minister U Tin Tun and Director-General U Soe Myint of the Energy Planning Department.
