(1)   Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Italy

YANGON, 19 June - Deputy Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Ambassador of Italy Dr Cesare Capitani at his office at 10 am today.

Present also at the meeting were officials of the Government Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

(2)   National Convention Convening Commission meets

YANGON, 19 June - The National Convention Convening Commission held its meeting at the meeting hall of the Commission this afternoon.

It was attended by Chairman of the Commission Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Vice Chairmen Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and members.

The National Convention Convening Work Committee and Management Committee presented matters pertaining to the National Convention which were coordinated by members of the Commission.

Maj-Gen Saw Lwin gave suggestions.

(3)   Minister oversees inland water transport services

YANGON, 19 June - Chairman of Supervisory Committee for Myanma Railways and Inland Water Transport Services to Operate at Full Capacity Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe visited the delta division of Inland Water Transport on Kaingdan Street this morning.

He was welcomed there by Managing Director of Inland Water Transport U Tun Aung Myint and officials.

The managing director reported on services of Inland Water Transport, passengers and cargo services and arrangements made to earn more.

The minister gave instructions on smooth passenger transport and increasing regular income and called for cooperation with the Supervisory Committee.

Later, the minister inspected Teinkho Boat which is going to leave for Maubin and Taingyinswe Boat which has just come to the quay.

Then, he went to the passenger hall and ticket sale section, and cordially conversed with the passengers.

Afterwards, he proceeded to Botahtaung Ware-house Division.

Officials reported on services of the division.  The minister left instructions.

(4)   Myanmar Women's Sports Federation holds annual meeting

YANGON, 19 June - The annual meeting of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation was held at International Business Centre this afternoon, attended by Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win.

Present were Patron of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation Dr Khin Win Shwe, officials of Sports and Physical Education Department, Chairperson of MWSF Dr May May Yi and EC members, chairmen of Myanmar Sports Federations, special guests and well-wishers.

Minister Brig-Gen Sein Win delivered an address.

Chairperson of MWSF Dr May May Yi extended greetings.

On behalf of the Patrons, Dr Khin Win Shwe presented 138 cabinets to Minister Brig-Gen Sein Win for Institute of Sports and Physical Education.

Minister Brig-Gen Sein Win presented a certificate of honour to Dr Khin Win Shwe.

Well-wishers donated cash for Myanmar Women's Sports Federation.  Patrons Daw Khin Than Nwe, Daw Khin Cho Oo and chairperson Dr May May Yi accepted the donations.

Then, Secretary of MWSF Daw Phyu Phyu read the annual report.

(5)   Minister for Transport inspects Shwekyetyet Jetty

YANGON, 19 June - Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, accompanied by Director-General of Department for Civil Aviation U Win Maung and officials, arrived Shwekyetyet Jetty in Amarapura Township on 17 June.

The minister inspected arrival of cement for Mandalay International Airport Project, freight handling of the jetty, loading of gypsum for cement factory and other activities at Shwekyetyet Jetty.

The minister gave instructions.

He proceeded to Road to Mandalay cruise boat where the minister inspected passenger transport condition, situation of restaurant and Cabin on the boat and transport programme for convenience of tourist.

Then, the minister cordially met the service personnel on the boat.

(6)   State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee meeting 4-5 July

YANGON, 19 June - The eleventh 47-Member Sangha Meeting of the Fourth State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee will be held on 11 and 12 waxing of Waso 1360 ME (4 and 5 July 1998).

The Religious Affairs Department has invited Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee to arrive at Kaba Aye on 8 waxing of Waso (1 July).

The previous date for holding the meeting was 8 and 9 waxing of Waso 1360 ME (1 and 2 July 1998).

(7)   MIC Secretary receives Vice-Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam

YANGON, 19 June - Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung received Vice-Minister of the Planning and Investment Mr Nguyen Xuan Thao of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, accompanied by Ambassador of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa, at his office at 10 am today.  Present also were officials of the Investment and Companies Administration Department.

(8)   Automobile Insurance Business Seminar

YANGON, 19 June - Myanmar Insurance and two Japanese firms, the Marine & Fire Insurance Association and the Non-Life Insurance Institute, jointly sponsored Automobile Insurance Business Seminar at the Traders Hotel this morning.  Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein said automobile third party insurance has been designated as a compulsory insurance in every country to provide compensation for loss, damage, injury and death caused by car accidents.

General Manager Mr Shuichi Sakagawa also spoke.

Experts of the two Japanese firms explained insurance practises in Japan.

Chairman of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, heads of department under the Ministry of Finance and Revenue, insurance officials, representative officers of foreign insurance and automobile companies and others were present.

(9)   Myanmar delegation arrives back from PRC

YANGON, 19 June - Under the programme of trade and economic cooperation between People's Republic of China and Myanmar, a nine-member delegation led by Minster for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut arrived back here by air this evening after studying in PRC.  The delegation was invited by the Government of People's Republic of China.

The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, officials of the PRC Embassy, heads of departments concerned, officials and relatives.

Members of the delegation Director-General U Zaw Win of the Electric Power Department, Tactical Operations Commander Col Maung Maung Swe of South-West Command, Deputy Chief Engineer U Tin Aung, Assistant Chief Engineer U Win Kyaw and Project Manager U Wan Kyi of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise, Director U Ohn Khaing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Maj Hla Thet Maung and Capt Tun Lin Oo of the Ministry of Defence and personal assistant to the minister Capt Maung Maung Soe also arrived back in same flight.
