YANGON, 16 June - The fourth meeting of the Fourth Yangon Division Working Committee of the Sangha was held at office of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee today.

Present to pay respects to Yangon Division Ovadacariya Sayadaws, Sayadaws of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee and Yangon Division Working Committee of the Sangha were members of the State peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Director-General of Religious Affairs Department U Arnt Maung, No.3 Military Region Commander Lt- Col Win Maung, Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt- Col Kyaw Tint and member U Kan Myint, officials and local authorities.

(2)   Minister for CPT visits Yangon West Auto-exchange

YANGON, 16 June - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin inspected Yangon West (Ahlon Township) Auto-exchange of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications this morning.  The Chief Engineer of the exchange briefed him on setup of personnel, carrying out maintenance work of the phone lines, type of the exchange and strength of personnel and maintenance work of phone lines.

The minister spoke of the need to inspect phone lines which usually break-down in rainy season, to systematically carry out re pair work and. to provide supervision so as to avoid misconducts.

He said he heard reports on incorrect phone bills and instructed officials concerned to make arrangements for preventing illegal phone line connections, adding if misconducts are found, effective action will be taken against those who are involved.  the minister then oversaw function of the exchange and gave instructions to be correct in phone bills and to meet the set foreign exchange earnings.

(3)   Secretary-General of USDA meets trainees of Marine Course for New Generation

YANGON, 16 June - Secretary-General of the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Than Aung met trainees of Tatmadaw (Navy) Marine Course for New Generation (Mandalay Camp) at Bayintnaung No.1 Transit Centre this evening.

Present also were Head of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command Headquarters Commodore Khin Aung and officials, course instructors and supervisors.  U Than Aung discussed matters related to the association.

Then, he cordially conversed with the trainees.

(4)   Talks on health and women's affairs

YANGON, 16 June - Talks on health and women's affairs sponsored by the Maternal and Child Welfare Association of the Directorate of Myanma Industrial Planning under the Ministry of Industry-2 was held in the meeting hall of the ministry this afternoon.

Present were Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central) Dr Khin Win Shwe, directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Industry-2 Patron of MCWA of DMIP Daw San San Mya and executives and members totalling about 200.

Director-General of DMIP U Khin Maung delivered an opening speech.

Dr Sein Maung of the factory gave a talk on common diseases among workers at the factory, Dr Khin Thet Myaing on dengue hemorrhagic fever and sanitation activities.

Deputy Director (medicine) of the Ministry of Industry-2 Dr Khin Win Shwe also gave a talk on facts about the National Working Committee for Women's Affairs.

(5)   USDA CEC member lectures in Hlinethaya

YANGON, 16 June - Central Executive Committee member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Deputy Minister for Information U Thein Sein lectured on the five purposes of the association and policies of the Government at the Refresher Course for Ward/Village-tract Organizers sponsored by Hlinethaya Township USDA this evening.

(6)   Education and Agitation Committee for Eradication of Narcotic Drugs Abuse and Psychotropic Substances meets

YANGON, 16 June - Education and Agitation Committee for Eradication of Narcotic Drugs Abuse and Psychotropic Substances held its coordination meeting at Information and Public Relations Department on Pansodan Street this morning. Chairman of the Committee Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein said previous governments concentrated on anti-drug activities in Myanmar and spoke of the need to educate the public so that they will know the ills of narcotic drugs and avoid them.

He called for cooperation and coordination among organizations individually or in group in the efforts for total eradication of narcotic drugs.

Those present took part in the discussions.

The meeting ended with the concluding remarks by the deputy minister.

Present also were officials of the Office of Director of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare, officials of departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Information, Basic Education Department, Social Welfare Department, Health Department, Myanmar Police Force (CCDAC) and officials of non-governmental organizations.

(7)   Myanmar Oriental Bank opens Kamayut Branch

YANGON, 16 June - Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd opened a branch at 158, Yangon- Insein Road, Kamayut Township, this morning.

Present were Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Than Tun, Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, directors-general and managing directors of the departments and enterprises under the ministry, officials, Chairman of Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd U Tin Oo and members of the board of directors, township authorities, members of Township Union Solidarity and Development Association and guests.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein said Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd has opened eight branches including Kamayut Branch and added it is undertaking credit card transactions.

Saying it is one of the private banks which are fulfilling the monetary requirements of the people, he noted the opening of Kamayut Branch will contribute to smooth monetary transactions of economic undertakings as well as factories and plants in the township.

He spoke of the need for all to carry out their work in accord with rules and regulations laid down by the State with a view to ensuring the successful implementation of the economic objectives of the State and avoiding financial crisis in the developing banking services.  Chairman of MOB U Tin Oo thanked the officials.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein and Chairman U Tin Oo formally opened the branch.

Later, the minister, the deputy minister and officials inspected the banking services of the branch.

(8)   24 armed group members exchange arms for peace 1-15 May

YANGON, 16 June - The State Peace and Development Council is striving for national reconsolidation, upholding Our Three Main National Causes, and is implementing the 12 political, economic and social objectives for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation. The Government is welcoming the persons who exchanged arms for peace, and attended to the food, clothing and shelter needs.

Realizing that their long destructive acts did not benefit the nation at all and understanding the genuine goodwill and correct endeavours of the government, the armed groups have been exchanging arms for peace individually or in groups.

Ma Thin Thin Hla, clerk, of Ka La La Ta armed group in Eastern Command area, Joint-Secretary Saw Lu Oo (a) Saw Lu Tha of No.2 Brigade, Pvts Bo Dah and Aung Myint Kyi of No.3 Company, No.2 Brigade of KNU armed group, bringing together with one M16, 13 rounds of ammunition and one magazine, in Southern Command area, Pvts Saw Aung Thein Pe, Saw Aung Hla Thwe, Saw Shwe Thein Ko, Saw Htoo Saw, Kyi Kaw Du, Naw The Aye, Naw Htoo Galay, Naw Phwe Htoo, Naw Pha Thi Ah, Naw Zat Pha, Saw Tha Baw and Saw Hseik Seik of KNU armed group with three M-16s, one magazine, 13 ammunition and two .30 carbines and Company Commander Than Win, Platoon Commander Nyi Nyi, Pvts Myo Nge, Tha Htoo, Me Thu, Myint Htein, Myo Win and Aye Win of BCP armed group together with one .45, one AK-47, four M-16s, one M-79, 18 magazines and 540 rounds of ammunition in Coastal Region Command area, totalling 24 exchanged arms for peace at the respective camps from 1 to 15 May.

Officials of the camps in the respective command areas fulfilled the requirements for them.
