(1) Flourishing of regular border trade ensures national benefits and deserving prices for exports General Maung Aye oversees Tachilek Township development

YANGON, 2 Apr - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye inspected development undertakings in Tachilek Township in Shan State East yesterday and today.

Accompanied by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, senior officers of Army, Navy and Air Force and ministers, the General helicoptered from Mongtong Township to Tachilek on 1 April.

On arrival at Tachilek Airport, the General and party were welcomed by Deputy Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint, Officiating Tactical Operation Commander Lt-Col Soe Thein, heads of departments, officials of Tachilek District and Township and local People.

(2) Secretary-1 inspects religious building projects at Kaba Aye, Dhammapala Hill

YANGON, 2 Apr - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected construction projects at Kaba Aye and on Dhammapala Hill in Mayangon Township this morning.

He inspected the site designated for construction of the State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) Convocation Dhammayon the project for construction of Ordination Hall (Kaba Aye) for the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaws, Pitakattaik and the project for building Sixth Buddhist Synod Mawgun Museum at Kaba Aye and the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University Project on Dhammapala Hill.

Accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, the Secretary-1 arrived at the site designated for construction of the State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) Convocation Dhammayon at Kaba Aye at 8.45 am and was welcomed there by Minister for religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Minister U Aung Khin, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint and departmental officials.

(3) Secretary-1 receives President of Inter Digital Communications Corporation

YANGON, 2 Apr - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received President of Inter Digital Communications Corporation Mr William A Doyle and party of United States of America at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence this afternoon.

Present together with the Secretary-l were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin and Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.

(4) Agreement signed to set up soap factory in Hlinethaya Industrial Zone 3

YANGON, 2 Apr - Human Settlement and Housing Development Department has agreed to lease a 1,189 acre plot in Hlinethaya Industrial Zone 3 to Myanmar Cole & Win Co Ltd of England to set up a soap factory there.

Under the contract, the company will build a soap powder and liquid factory producing household toilet requisites and chemicals to be used in manufacturing soap for 40 percent export and 60 percent domestic use, generating nearly 200 jobs for Myanmars.

Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint and Chairman Mr Anthony David Cole of the company, a joint-venture foreign investment firm set up by Mr Cole of Cole & Win International of England and Daw Soe Soe Win of Myanmar, spoke.

Mr Cole and Director-General U Arnt Kyaw of HSHDD signed the contract in the presence of Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister at Office of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Min Thein, Minister at Office of Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint and officials.

The company will pay $ 90,000 as annual land-lease fee to the State.

(5) MEB Branch opened in Kangyidaunt

YANGON, 2 Apr - Myanma Economic Bank branch was opened in Kangyidaunt Township, Pathein District, Ayeyawady Division, on 1 April.

The opening ceremony was attended by member of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Police Col Tin Wan Maung, General Manager of MEB U Aung Myint, Deputy General Manager U Pe Myint, township authorities and departmental officials.

Police Col Tin Wan Maung and General Manager U Aung Myint formally opened the MEB branch.

The new MEB branch, 60 feet by 30 feet, cost K4.5 million.

(6) Mayor inspects River View Garden Housing Project

YANGON, 2 Apr - Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, accompanied by Head of Department of Engineering Department (Building) U San Tun and officials, inspected River View Garden Housing Project, jointly sponsored by YCDC and Olympic Co on Strand Road in Ahlon Township this morning.

Chairman of Olympic Co U Aik Tun and officials conducted briefed the Mayor on construction of single units and condominiums in the River View Garden Housing Project.

The Mayor looked into requirements.

(7) Minister for Industry-1 inspects Myanmar Pharmaceutical Factory

YANGON, 2 Apr - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Industry-1 Col Than Zin and officials, arrived at Myanmar Pharmaceutical Factory at 8 am today.

Factory Manager U Zaw Win briefed the minister on production and distribution of medicines and traditional medicines.

Deputy Minister Col Than Zin and officials also briefed the minister on production of medicines.

Deputy Factory Manager Dr Win Maw briefed the minister on production of rabies vaccine and other potent medicines.

The minister gave suggestions.

Then, the minister and officials inspected manufacturing Adevit, Diazepan, mineral salt and Geriavit and packing of Provimin tablets.

He also inspected vaccines production.

The minister also inspected Dagon Soft Drink Factory on U Wisara Road.

He also inspected Winthuza Store and gave instructions.

(8) Results of VIII Student Sports Festival

YANGON, 2 Apr - The sports events of VIII inter State/Division Basic Education Student Sports Festival continued at the respective venues in Haka Township, Chin State, on 1 April.

Badminton

Mandalay and Chin were winners in women's semi-finals and Mandalay and Yangon were men's event.

Volleyball

Yangon, Magway, Mandalay and Rakhine were winners in women's event. Yangon, Ayeyawady, Chin and Mon were men's event.

Basketball

(Men): Yangon, Mon and Mandalay were winners.

(Women): Bago, Ayeyawady and Sagaing were winners.

Tennis

(Men): Yangon, Shan and Kayin were winners.

(Women): Yangon and Chin.

Chinlon

Taninthayi gained 310 points, Mon 141, Mandalay 635, Sagaing 277 and Yangon 495.

Best golfers for the first day were Ye Tun Aung (Shan), 79 strokes, Maung Maung Naing (Taninthayi), 83, and Zaw Zin Win (Magway), 83.

Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Chairman of Chin State Peace and Development Council Col Ohn Thwin and Director-General of Basic Education Department U Bo Win presented prizes to the winners.

(9) Rules and procedures for CMP system clarified to entrepreneurs

YANGON, 2 Apr - Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Maung Maung met the entrepreneurs, who are running businesses through CMP system, at the Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration this afternoon.

He clarified the rules and procedures for CMP system.

Director-General of Trade Department U Khin Maung Oo also explained the procedures for acquisition of licence.

Afterwards, the Minister replied to the questions raised by the entrepreneurs.

(10) Deputy Minister tours Zaungtu Hydel Power Project

YANGON, 2 Apr - Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, accompanied by officials of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise, inspected Zaungtu Hydro-Electric Power Project yesterday.

He heard reports on construction of power station and plans presented by Project Director U Win Kyi and officials.

The Deputy Minister gave suggestions on completion of the project earlier than scheduled, prevention of loss and wastage, work-site safety and staff welfare.

(11) Minister receives Secretary-General of CNACD

YANGON, 2 Apr - Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung received Secretary-General of the Cambodian National Authority for Combating Drugs Mr Sum Manith at his office at 4 pm today.

They discussed friendly bilateral relations.

Present also were officials of the Office of the Prime Minister.

(12) Deputy Minister for L&F receives Ambassador of PRC

YANGON, 2 Apr - Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein received Ambassador of People's Republic of China Mr Liang Dong at office at 9.30 am today.

Present also were Director-General U Kyaw Lwin of Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries, Director-General U Soe Win of Fisheries Department, Head of Office U Myint Shwe and officials.

(13) 50 litres of Phensedyl seized in Kalay

YANGON, 2 Apr - Kalay Township Special Anti-drug Squad seized 50 litres of Phensedyl in Pinlon Ward, Kalay Township, on 18 March.

When the squad entered the house of Ma Man Ngaik Din to search, two men who were later identified as Khin Khant Paung and Paung Khant Sein of Pinlon Ward dashed out of the house.

The squad seized 500 bottles of 100ml Phensedyl hidden in the house.

Action is being taken against the three in accord with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
