(1) Secretary-l receives Home Secretary of India

YANGON, 28 Apr - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Home Secretary of India Mr B P Singh and party at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 8 am today.

Present also were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department.

Home Secretary of India Mr B P Singh was accompanied by Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran.

(2) Secretary-l receives Fritz Werner Industrie-Ausrustungen GmbH

YANGON, 28 Apr - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Managing Director Mr Werner Schoeltzke of Fritz Werner Industrie-Ausrustungen GmbH at Dagon Yeiktha of Ministry of Defence at 5 pm today.

Present also were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department.

(3) Minister for Electric Power receives Ambassador of Japan

YANGON, 28 Apr - Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut received Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai at his office this evening.

Present also were officials of Myanma. Electric Power Enterprise.

(4) MIC Chairman receives Senior Executive V-P of Millicom International Cellular SA

YANGON, 28 Apr - Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Senior Executive Vice-President Mr MA Zambian and party of Millicom International Cellular SA of Sweden in his office at 10.30 am today.

Present also were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Secretary of Myanmar investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials of office of MIC and Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications.

(5) Myanmar, India sign agreement on cooperation

YANGON, 28 Apr - The 5th Myanmar-India Civilian Officials National-Level Meeting continued at the Ministry of Home Affairs, this morning.

In the evening, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and Home Secretary of the Republic of India Mr B P Singh signed an agreement on cooperation in matters of mutual interest.

Present were Director-General of General Administration Department U Aung Thein, departmental officials, Ambassador of the Republic of India Mr Shyam Saran and delegates.

(6) Lao Minister for Home Affairs visits Shwedagon Pagoda, Hlinethaya Industrial Zone

YANGON, 28 Apr - A goodwill delegation led by Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Asang Laoly of Lao People's Democratic Republic, currently here at the invitation of the Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, together with Yangon Division Commissioner of the General Administration Department U Kan Myint, Dean of Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of Laos Mr Ly Bounkham and officials, visited the Shwedagon Pagoda this morning and Hlinethaya Industrial Zone and Hlinethaya Township General Administration Department today.

On arrival at the Shwedagon Pagoda in the morning, they were welcomed by members of the Board of Trustees.

Minister Maj-Gen Asang Laoly and party offered flowers and water in the West Shrine.

Later, Maj-Gen Asang Laoly signed in the Visitor's Book and donated cash towards the pagoda funds.

At 1 pm, they were briefed by Director-General of Myanma Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, deputy director-general, officials of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control, General Administration Department, Prisons Department, Immigration and National Registration Department and the Department for the Progress of Border Areas and National Races on departmental work with audio visual aids at the office of the Director-General of MPF.

Afterwards, Maj-Gen Asang Laoly and party, together with officials, went to Hlinethaya Industrial Zone.

They were welcomed there by Director of Human Settlement and Housing Development Department U Tin Win and officials.

He explained salient points of the industrial zone.

Maj-Gen Asang Laoly and party studied Tai Yi Footwear Factory and signed in the Visitor's Book.

In the evening, they visited Hlinethaya Township General Administration Department.

U Kan Myint explained salient points of Hlinethaya Township.

Col Tin Hlaing also hosted dinner in honour of the Laos goodwill delegation at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel.

(7) Seminar on Oil and Gas Insurance

YANGON, 28 Apr - TRB (Asia) Ltd of Malaysia and Myanma Insurance of the Ministry of Finance and Revenue cosponsored a seminar on oil and gas insurance this morning.

The seminar at Myanma Insurance Headquarters was attended by Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun, Managing, Director U Ba Tun, directors-general and Managing directors of departments and enterprises under the ministry, officials of the Malaysian company and Myanma Insurance and guests.

U Ba Tun spoke.

TRB officials lectured on oil and gas insurance.

The seminar continues till 30 April.

(8) Cultivation of paddy in wetlands inspected

YANGON, 28 Apr - CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone formally opened new building for Ahtetpegon Village Basic Education Middle School in Wakema Township on 27 April.

Present were Chairman of Myaungmya District Peace and Development Council, Secretary of USDA, Chairman of Wakema Township Peace and Development Council, Chairman of Township USDA, officials and locals.

The minister met Secretaries of Maubin District and Township and Myaungmya District and Wakema Township USDAs and CE members. In the afternoon, he also met towns-elders and EC members of Yelegalay Village USDA. He met chairmen of Ward Peace and Development Council and towns-elders in Kyonsoke Village in Maubin and Thayawe and Hleseik Villages in Kyaiklat Township and Dedaye Township.

The minister discussed organizational, management and others and fulfilled the requirements for rural development.

The minister inspected the office of Forest Department in Maubin Township and met regional authorities.

He inspected cultivation of paddy in wetlands along Maubin-Hsarmalauk Road.

(9) Minister for Sports tours Shan State, Mandalay and Sagaing Divisions

YANGON, 28 Apr - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win inspected sports facilities in Lashio, Hsenwi Kutkai and Namhkam in Shan State on 26 April.

He was accompanied by Deputy Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Lt-Col Thein Aung and officials.

During his inspection tour, he had coordination meetings with officials of Shan State Sports and Physical Education Department, officials of township authorities, District and Township USDAs and Township SPEDs and sports committees concerned and fulfilled the requirements of sports of the towns.

At the meetings, the minister explained the sports policy and future tasks for development of sports standard.

On 27 March, he oversaw sport facilities in Muse and held discussions with township authorities, officials of District and Township USDAs and sports committees.

(10) Amateur Golf Championship begins

YANGON, 28 Apr - Amateur Golf Championship sponsored by Myanmar Golf Federation began at Myanmar Golf Club at 9th Mile On Pyay Road today.

Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win declared the tournament open.

Also present were Director-General Col Hla Myint Kyaw of Sports and Physical Education Department and officials, President of MGF Dr Ye Myint and executives and guests.

Players with best strokes of the day were Aung Zaw Moe with 71 strokes, Aye Lwin and Min Naing with 75 each, Myint Than, Yin Htwe, Aung Naing Win, Than Naing (Bago) with 76 each and Tun Hlaing, Zaw Ko Ko, Myo Win and Kyaw Htoo with 77 each.

The tournament Continues tomorrow.

(11) K 4.5m Myanmar-Japan Friendship School Building handed to Ministry of Education

YANGON, 28 Apr - Myanmar-Japan Friendship School Building in Bago was handed over to the Ministry of Education this morning and Minister for Education U Than Aung accepted the related documents and thanked the donors.

President of Myanmar Social Security, Economic and Cultural Association of Fukuoka District in Japan Mr Shiweru Tajima built the PS-1(6) school building worth K 4.5 million on 200ft x 140ft area in the compound of Basic Education Primary School at Payathonzu in Ward 8, Bago, to commemorate Myanmar-Japan friendship.

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Commander of No 77 LID Col Thein Soe and military officers, Director-General of Basic Education Department U Bo Win and officials, members of Bago Division Peace and Development Council, the President and members of Myanmar Social Security, Economic and Cultural Association of Fukuoka District in Japan, personnel of Japanese Embassy, members of the Myanmar Historical Commission and others.

Speaking on the occasion Minister U Than Aung said the building comprises six classrooms and an office.

He said at a time when schools and teaching aids are in need for all-round development of education, well-wishers at home and abroad donate cash and kind for the purpose. The school, he said, was donated as a token of Myanmar-Japan friendship.

Next, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt recalled how agreement was reached to build a school to accommodate about 500 pupils.

Afterwards, Mr Tajima explained why he had decided to donate the school building. He then presented related documents to Minister U Than Aung who handed him a certificate of honour.

Commemorative pennants were presented to Mr Tajima, U Than Aung, U Soe Nyunt and Divisional Education Officer U Ohn Kyaing.

(12) Minister for H&T receives foreign businessmen

YANGON, 28 Apr - Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin received Director of Maltese Holding Co Doulos Ltd Mr Stephen Cassidy at his office at 10 am today.

Similarly, the minister received Marketing Director Mr Frederic Goubet of Accor Tour Co Ltd based Paris, France, at 11 am and Chairman Dr Tha Tun Oo and party of Today Media & Information Ltd at the same office 11.30 am today.
