(1)   State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to Yugoslavia

YANGON, 27 Apr - Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, has sent messages of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Slobodan Milosevic, President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and to His Excellency Dr Radoje Kontic, Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Proclamation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which falls on 27 April 1998.

(2)   State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior Genera Than Shwe sends felicitations to South Africa

YANGON, 27 Apr - Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Nelson E Mandela, President of the Republic of South Africa on the occasion of the Freedom Day of the Republic of South Africa.

(3)   Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing arrive on goodwill visit

YANGON, 26 Apr - At the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and goodwill delegation members, arrived at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, yesterday afternoon.

En route, they stopped over at Changi Airport arriving there at 12 noon local time. They were welcomed there by Ambassador of Singapore to Myanmar Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow, Mr Tan Keng Jin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Myo Myint and wife, and embassy staff.

The special aircraft carrying Senior General Than Shwe and goodwill delegation arrived at Brunei International Airport in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, at 3.30 pm local time.

Ambassador of Myanmar to Brunei Darussalam U Than Tun and the Director of Protocol and Consular Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei boarded the aircraft and ushered Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing.

Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing and Myanmar delegation members were welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah, Minister of Communications Dato Haji Zakaria bin Datu Mahawangsa Haji Sulaiman and wife, Ambassador of Brunei to Myanmar Pengian Dato Paduka Asmalee Ahmad and wife, members of the welcoming party, Ambassador of Myanmar to Brunei U Than Tun and wife, and embassy staff.

Accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and his spouse, Minister of Communications Dato Haji Zakaria bin Datu Mahawangsa Haji Sulaiman and wife, Ambassador of Brunei to Myanmar Pengian Dato Paduka Asmalee Ahmad and wife, and members of the welcoming party, the Senior General and entourage proceeded to Istana Nurul Iman.

At-Istana Nurul Iman, Myanmar goodwill delegation led by Senior General Than Shwe was welcomed by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Her Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri and Royal Families, Cabinet Ministers and wives, Members of Privy Council and wives, deputy ministers and wives, the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Commissioner of Royal Brunei Police, diplomats, resident representatives of the UN agencies and wives, and VIPs of the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Next, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam proceeded to the Royal Dais and took the salute of the Guard of Honour.

Meanwhile, there was a 21-gun salute and the State Band played the National Anthems of the Union of Myanmar and Brunei Darussalam. While the National Anthem of the Union of Myanmar was being played, the Flag of the Union of Myanmar was unfurled.

Afterwards, Senior General Than Shwe and His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah inspected the Guard of Honour.

They then returned to the Royal Dais and took the Second Royal Salute.

Meanwhile, the State Band played the National Anthems of the Union of Myanmar and Brunei Darussalam.

Later, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah presented the Royal Families, Cabinet Ministers and wives, Members of Privy Council and wives, deputy ministers and wives, the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Commissioner of Royal Brunei Police, diplomats, resident representatives of the UN agencies and wives, and VIPs of the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Senior General Than Shwe.

Senior General Than Shwe also presented the members of Myanmar goodwill delegation to His Majesty Sultan Haji Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah.

Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing called on His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah, Her Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri and Her Royal High-ness Pengiran Isteri at the audience chamber at the Istana Nurul Iman.

Next, Senior General Than SE His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah proceeded to another audience chamber for one-on-one meeting.

Afterwards, Senior General Than Shwe, Daw Kyaing Kyaing and goodwill delegation members, accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and his spouse, proceeded to Istana Edinburgh where the goodwill delegation would stay.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah hosted the State Banquet at the Istana Nurul Iman in the evening.

Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, accompanied by Minister of Communications Dato Haji Zakaria bin Datu Mahawangsa Haji Sulaiman and wife, arrived at the Istana Nurul Iman at 8 pm.

They were welcomed there by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah, Her Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri.

Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing cordially met His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah, Her Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri in the Holding Room.

Afterwards, they had a documentary photo taken and exchanged gifts before proceeding to the Banquet Hall.

At the State Banquet, the State Band played the National Anthems of the Union of Myanmar and Brunei Darussalam.

State Mufti Haji Abdul Aziz bin Juned conducted the Doa Selamat blessings.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah made a speech. (Reported separately)

Later, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah, Her Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri hosted the banquet in honour of Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing and goodwill delegation members.

After the banquet, the State Band played the National Anthems of the Union of Myanmar and Brunei Darussalam.

(4)   Secretary-2 inspects Udo-Chaung-Thoneawa Motor Road in Taikkyi

YANGON, 26 Apr - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected Udo-Chaung Thonegwa motor road in Taikkyi Township today and attended to the need of officials on improvement of the motor road and bridges.

Accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Deputy Minister for Energy U Tin Tun, Officer on special Duty at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and officials, the Secretary-2 Left for Taikkyi this morning and inspected the Udo-Chaung-Thonegwa motor road.

(5)   Myanmar engineers delegation leaves for Thailand

YANGON, 26 Apr - A 14-member Myanmar engineers delegation led by Chairman of Mingaladon Garden City Project Zaykaba Co Ltd U Khin Shwe, on whom an honorary doctorate was conferred by Washington University, left here by air yesterday evening for Thailand at the invitation of the Mitsiam Estate Development Co Ltd.

The delegation will study modern buildings in Bangkok, housing projects, land reclamation and construction technology from 25 to 30 April.

(6)   Prizes presented to winners of Monhinga Competition

YANGON, 26 Apr - Prizes were presented to winners of Monhinga Festival and Competition on-the lawns of People's Park, this morning.

Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Latt spoke.

U Khin Maung Latt presented prizes to first, second and third positions and Chairman of Myanmar Chefs Association Mr Renato to consolation prize winners.

(7)   Delegation leaves for Thailand

YANGON, 26 Apr - A delegation led by Director-General of Agricultural Planning Department Dr Mya Maung left here this morning to attend the Senior Officers Meeting of the 19th meeting of ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry to be held from 27 to 29 April in Thailand.

The delegation comprises Deputy Director U Myo Myat of Planning and Statistics Department of the Ministry of Forestry and Deputy Director-General U Than Tun of Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries as members.

(8)   Rubber plantation inspected in Kengtung

YANGON, 26 Apr - Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council (East) Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein, accompanied by departmental officials, inspected 653 acres of rubber plantation by contour method in Monglang Village tract in Kengtung Township on 24 April.

The commander gave instructions on extended plantation of rubber and cultivation of crops.

(9)   Ceremony to mark centenary of Myanmar Forest School

YANGON, 26 Apr - A ceremony to mark centenary of Myanmar Forest School was held in PyinOoLwin this morning.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Director-General of Forest Department Dr Kyaw Tint, service personnel, advisers, retired forest personnel and old students of the school.

The deputy minister spoke and formally opened the commemorative archway and Dr Kyaw Tint unveiled the commemorative monument.

The deputy minister and guests inspected commemorative showrooms and planted trees.

(10)  Home Secretary of India arrives

YANGON, 26 Apr - A five-member Indian delegation led by Home Secretary of India Mr B P Singh arrived here by air this morning to attend the 5th Myanmar-India Civilian Officials State Level Meeting.

They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Ambassador of India to Myanmar Mr Shyam Saran, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, directors-general and officials of the ministry.

(11)  Health care services discussed with State/Division officers

YANGON, 26 Apr - A work coordination meeting on undertaking health care services with State/Division health officers was held at the Health officers Training School in Dagon Township yesterday.

Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo spoke about systematic undertaking of primary health care services and the services at hospitals.

A general round of discussions followed.

After the meeting, State/Division health officers, medical superintendents and directors, together with the deputy minister, toured rural health care centres in Mezali Village, Nyaungdon Township, and studied primary health care services in villages on Yangon-Nyaungdon Road.
