(1) More traditional medicine hospitals to be built in States, Divisions to meet needs Greater Mandalay City Development Project gaining momentum

YANGON, 8 Apr - Shwehtidaw hoisting ceremony of Lawka Manaung Shwegugyi Pagoda was held in the precincts of the pagoda in Inyaung Village in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Division, this morning, attended by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing.

Present also were State Ovadacariya Sayadaws, Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka
Committee and Member Sayadaws, invited members of the Sangha, Secretary-2 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, members of the State Peace and Development Council

(2) CSS launches first CD on Myanmar created by young national computer technicians

YANGON, 8 Apr - The Yangon Division Cooperative Store Syndicate Ltd No-1 today launched "Myanmar Another Incarnation" CD at a ceremony at the International Business Centre on Pyay Road here, addressed by Chairman of Myanmar Computer Technology Development Council Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, U Than Shwe and Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, deputy ministers, the deputy commander, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, entrepreneurs, hotels and travel agency operators, media personnel, computer companies, Chairperson of the Yangon Division Cooperative Store Syndicate Ltd No 1 Daw Wah Wah Tun and the board of directors and guests.

(3) Secretary-1 receives Thai Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

YANGON, 8 Apr - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Mr Sukhumbhand Paribatra and party at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 3 pm today.

Also present were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department.

The visiting deputy minister was accompanied by Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak.

(4) Dagon Seikkan Industrial Zone being developed to enhance regional progress, generate jobs

YANGON, 8 Apr - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended foundation laying ceremony of a basic education middle school and inspected town development in Dagon Myothit this morning.

Accompanied by Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister at Office of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Ministers at Office of Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, deputy ministers, the deputy commander of Yangon Command, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and heads of departments, the Secretary-1 inspected Tosta Housing Project, a joint venture of Human Settlement and Housing Development Department and Tosta Group Ltd, in Ward 65, Dagon Myothit (South), at 10 am.

(5) Thai, Myanmar hold discussions on trade cooperation

YANGON, 8 Apr - Deputy Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint received visiting Thai Deputy Minister of Commerce Mr Pothipong Lamsom and party at the Ministry of Commerce this afternoon.

They discussed economic and investment cooperation between two countries.

Present also were Deputy Minister for Commerce Col Kyaw Shwe and officials.

Afterwards, Thai and Myanmar trade representatives led by respective deputy ministers held discussions on border trade cooperation and promotion between two countries at the hall of Directorate of Trade till 3.20 pm.

(6) Bagan Plaza of Yangon International Hotel opens

YANGON, 8 Apr - Bagan Plaza of Yangon International Hotel opened in front of the hotel at the corner of Pyay Road and Ahlon Road here this evening.

Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the opening of the plaza.

Also present were ministers, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, the Mayor of Yangon, the deputy ministers, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, heads of Office of the State Peace and Development Council and departments, Chairman of Yangon International Hotel Mr Koki Onodera
and his wife and guests.

Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and Mr Onodera formally opened the plaza.

Afterwards, dinner was hosted for the guests.

(7) Thai Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister visits Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 8 Apr - At the invitation of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe, Thai Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Sukhumbhand Paribatra and party visited Shwedagon Pagoda at 8 am today.

They were welcomed by officials of the Board of Trustees of the pagoda.

The deputy minister arid party paid obeisance to the pagoda at western Aryonkhan Tazaung and signed the visitors' book.

(8) Minister for Information receives Manager of MIC

YANGON, 8 Apr - Minister for Information MajGen Kyi Aung received Manager (Business Development Asia) of Millicom International Cellular SA Mr Peter Eng and party at his office at 1 pm today.

Present also were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Director-General U Kyi Lwin of Myanma Radio and Television, Director-General Lt-Col Chit Naing of Public Relations and Information Department Managing Director U Than Maung of Printing and Publishing Enterprise, Managing Director U Tin Pe of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise, Managing Director U Zaw Sein Win of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries of the Ministry of Industry-1, Director (News) U Hla Tun, standing for Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Chief Editor of The New Light of Myanmar U Kyaw Min and departmental officials.

(9) Minister inspects poultry farms of No 11 LID, Yangon Command

YANGON, 8 Apr - Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein inspected livestock station of No I 1 Light Infantry Division in Yemon Tatmyo, Hlegu Township, this morning.

He was accompanied by Managing Director of Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise U Maung Maung Nyunt and officials.

Tactical Operations Commander of No 11 LID Col Soe Win and Commanding Officer of the Regional Battalion Lt-Col Thein Hlaing briefed the minister on poultry farms.

It was followed by supplementary reports presented by U Maung Maung Nyunt and officials of CP Group.

Afterwards, the minister oversaw the farms and attended to the requirements.

The minister also inspected poultry farms of battalions and units under No l l LID in Indaing station area and those of Breeding Project of Yangon Command in Insein Township.

(10) Thai Deputy Foreign Minister ends visit

YANGON, 8 Apr - The Thai delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mr Sukhumbhand Paribatra after paying a visit to the Union of Myanmar at the Invitation of Deputy Foreign Minister U Nyunt Swe, left Yangon by air this evening.

The Thai Deputy Foreign Minister and party were seen off at the Yangon International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister U Nyunt Swe responsible officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thai Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Pensak Chalarak and members of Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon.

(11) Minister greets members of nationalities

YANGON, 8 Apr - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt met 65 members of nationalities at Tiger Parahita School for Development of National Races this evening.

The nationalities - 13 Kayahs of Loikaw and Dimawso Townships, 13 Chins of Reed and Kyikha regions, 27 Rakhines, and 12 Nagas of Leshi Township are currently here to enjoy 1998 Maha Thingyan Festival at the invitation of Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Work Committee for Progress of Border Areas and National Races Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The minister greeted them and presented gifts.
