(1) General Maung Aye receives Defence Attache of Pakistan

YANGON, 26 Mar - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye received Defence Attache of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Brig-Gen Ghulam Muhammad Mohatarem, based in Bangkok, at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 8.30 am today.

Present together with General Maung Aye were Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla.

YANGON, 26 Mar - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye received Armed Forces and Defence Attache of Israel Col Yoash Rubin, based in Bangkok, at Dangon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 8 am today. Present together with General Maung Aye were Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla.

YANGON, 26 Mar - Chairman of the Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended to the needs in developing Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, yesterday and today.

Accompanied by Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister U Than Shwe, Deputy Minister for Education Dr Than Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments and officials, the Secretary-1 arrived Mawlamyine by air at 5.30 pm yesterday.

On arrival at Mawlamyine Airport, they were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen Myint Aung, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Commander of Mawrawady Naval Regional Command Capt Thein Ngwe, military and civilian officers, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association and Tatmadawmen and families.

(4) Tatmadaw government investing immensely in infra-structural projects for regional development, socio-economic uplift New Attaran Bridge will serve as vital link for progress of Mon, Kayin States

YANGON, 26 Mar - The Attaran Bridge, 1,420 feet long and 24 feet wide, suspended with steel cables on reinforced concrete foundation, built at a cost of K 580.6 million plus $ 1.127 million in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, was commissioned this morning as a gesture hailing the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day, with an address by Chairman of the Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present at the inauguration ceremony were Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Myint Aung, ministers, deputy ministers, Commander of Mawrawady Naval Region Command Captain Thein Ngwe, Chairman of Kayin State Peace and Development Council Col Saw Khin Soe, departmental heads, Mon State, District, Township, Ward and Village authorities, departmental personnel, Chairman of New Mon State Party Nai Shwe Kyin and members, bridge builders of the People's Republic of China, Attaran Bridge Project senior engineer and personnel, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross and Fire Brigade, teachers, pupils, cultural troupes, guests and local people totaling over 50,000.

(5) Armed Forces Day Commemorative Exhibition opens

YANGON, 26 Mar - The opening ceremony of the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commemorative Literary and Art Exhibition was held at the Tatmadaw Convention Centre this afternoon, attended by Chairman of the Leading Committee for Observance of the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations Chief one Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Also present were Chairman of the Management Committee for Observance of the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day Member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, senior military officers, deputy ministers, departmental heads, members of the Committee for Organizing the Literary and Art Competitions, the chairman and members of the Work Committee, eminent writers, photographers and artists, first, second and third prize winners in the competitions, the secretary and members of Dagon and Mingala Taungnyunt Township Union Solidarity and Development Associations, those who composed songs in honour of the Armed Forces Day, nationalities of the University of Culture, teachers, pupils and guests.

Lt-Gen Tin Oo formally opened the exhibition.

The master of ceremonies explained Artist U Tin Soe's painting portraying the troops of King Anaukphetlunmin Maha Dhamma Raza defeating the invaders led by Portuguese De Brito.

Afterwards, Lt-Gen Tin Oo formally unveiled the painting which was placed in the centre of the hall.

Later, Lt-Gen Tin Oo and guests viewed the prize-winning photos, paintings, sculptures, essays, poems, computer paintings, and the big paintings in honour of the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day.

The exhibition is open to all from 9 am to 5 pm till 4 April.

(6) Thallawady-5 double-decker launched

YANGON, 26 Mar - The 37-metre shallow draught type Thallawady-5 double-decker of Yunnan Machinery Import and Export Corporation was launched at Myanma Shipyards (Hsinmalaik) in Kamayut Township this morning.

It was built at the shipyard.

The ceremony to launch the ship was attended by Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye and heads of departments.

The ship worth US $ 1,451,700 can cruise at 10 nautical miles per hour carrying 267 including 17 crew and 20 first-class passengers and 30 tons of cargo.

(7) Cash presented to YCDC for use in Thingyan charity

YANGON, 26 Mar - A ceremony to hand over cash and kind to Yangon City Development Committee for donation to social organizations on the eve of Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival, 1359 ME, was held at the City Hall at 10.30 am today.

Present also were Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Vice-Chairman Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Secretary Col Myint Aung, Joint-Secretary U Kyi Win and committee members, heads of departments, ,donors and guests. The donations include K 10 million by Yangon City Bank, K 500,000 each by U Aik Hauk of Tetkham Company, U Aik Kyin of Yangon Holdings Company and U Moe Kyaw Thu of Shwe Thanlwin Trading Company, K 300,000 each by U Maung Maung of Asia Express and U Thura Aung Kyaw of KAF Company, K 200,000 each by Daw Win Min Than of W & T Company, U Shwe Kyaing of Wa Wa Win Construction, U Soe Than Tun of Yan Shin Construction and U Toe Aung Cho of Hsaung Hayman Construction, rice, edible oil and groceries worth K 200,000 by brokers of Bayintnaung Market, 1,000 FECs by Marubeni Corporation, 30 bags of rice worth K 200,000 by U Shein Win of Tet Lan Construction, K 150,000 by U Aung Zaw Win of Shine Construction, soft drinks valued at K 120,000 by U Tun Naing of J & J Company and K 100,000 by member of Board of Directors U Tin Maung Latt, on behalf of Myanmar May Flower Bank Ltd, and other donors.

Altogether 72 well-wishers donated over K 15.6 million and offertories worth over k 600,000 totally over K 16.2 million.

Mayor U Ko Lay, Col Maung Pa, Col Myint Aung, U Kyi Win, U Aung Soe and Col Thaung Wai accepted the donations.

Mayor U Ko Lay presented certificates of honour to the donors.

(8) Blood, medical equipment for DSGH

YANGON, 26 Mar - Hailing the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day, a ceremony to donate blood and medical equipment for Tatmadawmen, who are being treated in Defence Services General Hospital, was held at the hospital at 9 am today.

It was attended by Commandant of DSGH Col Tin Thein Lwin and specialists, well-wishers who would donate blood and medical equipment with the patronage of Sayadaw U Ottara of Htihsaung Village in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Division.

First, Sayadaw U Ottara delivered an Ovadakatha on blood donation.

Well-wisher U Ba Shwe of No 135, 35th Street, explained to them the purpose of his donation and presented medical equipment to Col Tin Thein Lwin.

Then, altogether 60 well-wishers donated blood.

(9) Nepali title recipient Sayadaw leaves for home

YANGON, 26 Mar - Title recipient Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Anurudha of Nepal and member of the Sangha left here by air this morning.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Minister for Religious Affair U Aung Khin, Directors-General and officials of the ministry and Ambassador of Nepal Gen Satchit Shumshere Jb Rana.

Bhaddanta Anurudha received the religious title in 1998 as per Notification No 2/98 of the State Peace and Development Council.

(10) Minister for F & R receives President of Premier Petroleum Myanmar Ltd

YANGON, 26 Mar - Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein received President Mr Ronald L Morris and party. of Premier Petroleum Myanmar Ltd of Britain at his office at 10 am today.

They discussed investment and mutual cooperation.

Present also were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Than Tun and Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.

(11) Chairman of MIC receives Director of LP Holding Company Ltd

YANGON, 26 Mar - Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Director Mr Peter Norman Elliott and party of PL Holding Company Ltd at his office at noon.

Present also were officials of the Myanmar Investment Commission, Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, Yangon City Development Committee and Mandalay City Development Committee.

They discussed the situation of the hotel business being undertaken by LP Holding Company Ltd in accord with the Foreign Investment Law.

(12) Chief Justice returns from Laos

YANGON, 26 Mar - Myanmar delegation led by Chief Justice U Aung Toe arrived back here by air yesterday evening from Lao People's Democratic Republic at the conclusion of goodwill visit at the invitation of the Minister for Justice of Laos.

They were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Supreme Court Justices, Deputy Attorney-General U Khin Maung Aye, Ambassador of Laos to Myanmar Mr Ly Bounkham and officials of Chief Justice's Office.

Director-General of Supreme Court U Ba Than Aung, Directors U Thet Tun and U Soe Nyunt also arrived back at the same flight.
