(1) Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong of Singapore arrives on goodwill visit

YANGON, 24 Mar - At the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe, a delegation led by Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong arrived at the Yangon International Airport by special flight at 11.30 am today on an official visit.

The Singapore delegation led by Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong was welcomed at the airport by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Myo Myint, Director-General of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thura U Aung Htet, Dean of Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Ly Bounkham, Heads of diplomatic missions and United Nations agencies in Yangon, Ambassador of Republic of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow and embassy staff.

Students waved miniature flags of the two countries and chanted friendship slogans.

(2) Governments of Myanmar and Singapore sign agreement

YANGON, 24 Mar - The Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Republic of Singapore signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Republic of Singapore on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports at Pyithu Hluttaw Building at 4.30 pm today.

Present were Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Ministers at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel and Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore U Myo Myint, department heads, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong, Minister for Foreign Affairs Professor S Jayakumar, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow and high-ranking officials.

U Ohn Gyaw and Professor S Jayakumar signed the MoU and exchanged documents.

(3) Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt calls on Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong

YANGON, 24 March Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt called on Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong at Seinle Kantha State House at 2 pm today.

Present together with the Singapore Prime Minister were Minister for Foreign Affairs Professor S Jayakumar, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow and high-ranking officials.

The Secretary-1 was accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore U Myo Myint, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and Director-General of Political Department U Khin Maung Win.

(4) Chairmen of Premier Petroleum Myanmar call on Deputy Premier

YANGON, 24 March- Chairmen of Premier Petroleum Myanmar Limited Mr Ronald L Morris and Mr Mervyn J Porter, called on Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun at his office at 9 am today.

(5) Minister for A & I receives Singapore Business Mission

YANGON, 24 Mar - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin received a nine-member Singaporean Business Mission led by Chairman of NTUC Fairprice Cooperatives Mr S Chandra Das, which is accompanying Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong, at his office at 2 pm today.

They discussed technological cooperation for agricultural development between the two countries and investment matter.

Present also were Deputy Minister U Ohn Myint and heads of departments and enterprises under the ministry.

(6) Minister for Industry-2 visits No 1 Factory of MHI in Malun

YANGON, 24 Mar - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by officials, visited No 1 Factory under Myanma Heavy Industries in Minhla Township, Magway Division, on 22 March morning.

They were welcomed there by Factory Manager U Aung Min and officials.

The minister inspected the process of dry cell production, assembling of Zwe tractors and the storage of machinery parts manufactured by the factory and purchased from abroad, raw materials, mechanical equipment and chemicals used in dry cell production.

He also urged officials to strive for the improvement of the quality of tractors, make packages attractive and beautiful, inspect materials kept in store, reuse old machinery parts kept in store after repairing them and keep the ware houses clean.

(7) Medicines donated for medical depots

YANGON, 24 Mar - Upholding Our Three Main National Causes, a ceremony to donate medicine worth over K 200,000 for Defence Services medical depots by Myanmar War Veterans Organization was held at the office of Tatmadaw Medical Research Development Committee at No 2 Military Hospital at 2 pm today.

Present also were Commandant of Defence Services General Hospital Col Tin Thein Lwin, Commandant of Defence Services Physical Rehabilitation Hospital Lt-Col Soe Than, Commanding Officer of No 1 Medical Depot Lt-Col Thein Soe, senior military officers, donors and guests.

(8) Minister for NPED receives Singapore Business Mission

YANGON, 24 Mar - Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha received Singapore Business Mission led by Chairman of NTUC Fairprice Cooperatives Mr S Chandra Das accompanying Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong at his office at 2 pm today. They discussed ensuring smooth economic cooperation and mutual interest matters between Singapore and Myanmar.

Present also were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Zaw Tun and officials.

(9) Deputy Minister inspects bridge construction projects in Taninthayi Division

YANGON, 24 Mar - Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint accompanied by officials of Public Works visited the Taninthayi Division Public Works Office on 22 March and met the staff there.

Afterwards, he went to Winwa Bridge Construction Project site in Thayetchaung Township and inspected progress of work.

The deputy minister proceeded to the construction site of the bridge across Palauk Creek in Palaw Township. He called on the engineers to complete the project in time meeting the standards.

He also inspected the Palaw Creek Bridge Construction Project and inspected the project activities.

He then visited the Palaw Township Peace and Development Council Office and met departmental personnel and Township Union Solidarity and Development Association executives. He later inspected construction of the bridge No 1/35 at 125/6 mile post. He also inspected the Milaung Creek Bridge Construction site and finishing touches there.

He next went to Myeik and spent the night there.

(10) APBCC donates medical equipment to military hospitals

YANGON, 24 Mar - A ceremony to donate medical equipment for Tatmadawmen, who are being treated in military hospitals, was held at Defence Services General Hospital at 10 am today as a gesture hailing the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day.

The ceremony was attended by commandants of military hospitals in Mingaladon Station and officials, Chairman of All Private Bus Lines Control Committee retired Col Phone Kyaw and officials.

First, retired Col Phone Kyaw explained the purpose of the donation.

Then, he presented medical equipment worth K 150,000 each for Defence Services General Hospital and No 2 Military Hospital, K 50000 for Defence Services Obstetrics and Gynecological Hospital, K 100,000 for Defence Services Orthopedic and Reconstructive Surgery Hospital and K 50000 for Defence Services Physical Rehabilitation Hospital.

Commandants of the respective hospitals accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the donors.

(11) Sri Lankan Buddhist delegation concludes visit

YANGON, 24 Mar - Buddhist delegation of Sri Lanka led by Ven Dr Mapalagama Vipulasara left for home this morning after conclusion of their religious visit here.

The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Minister U Aung Khin, Director-General of Religious Affairs Department U Arnt Maung, Director-General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin and other officials.
