(1) Secretary-1 receives national race leader of Northern Shan State Special Region 3

YANGON, 15 Mar - Chairman of Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received national race leader of Northern Shan State Special Region 3 U Se Tin and members U Lut Maung, U Kai Hpa and U Sai Du at Tatmadaw Guest House in Inya Road at 1 pm today.

Present also were Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, heads of department and officials.

They discussed progress of education, health and transport sectors and development of the region.

(2) Secretary-1 receives Assistant UN Secretary-General

YANGON, 15 Mar - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Assistant United Nations Secretary-General Assistant Administrative Officer of UNDP Regional Director of Asia and the Pacific Region Bureau Dr Nay Dun and members at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence this evening.

Present together with the Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt were Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.

Dr Nay Dun was accompanied by Resident Representative of UNDP Mr Siba Kumar Das and Deputy Resident Representative Mr James Rawley.

(3) Secretary-1 inspects Women's Home (Yangon), construction of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association building

YANGON, 15 Mar - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt this morning inspected Women's Home (Yangon), construction of new building for Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and two lion statues at western stairway of the Shwedagon Pagoda and gave instructions.

Accompanied by officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, the Secretary-1 arrived at Women's Home (Yangon) of Social Welfare Department on Thanlwin Street in Kamayut Township.

They were welcomed by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, heads of department, Acting Director-General of SWD Lt-Col Khin Aung and officials, Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs Dr May May Yi, the Administrator of Women's Home and officials.

Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and officials briefed the Secretary-1 on history, location and its area, situation of buildings, aim, functions and organizational set up of the home.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt looked into the requirements and inspected compound of the home.

The Secretary-1 gave instructions on greening of its environs and renovation of the buildings and also inspected weaving, jewellery and laundry services and the shop at the home.

The Secretary-1 proceeded to the construction site of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association on Thanthuma Road in South Okkalapa Township where they were welcomed by Vice-Chairperson of MMCWA Dr Khin Win Shwe and officials.

Dr Khin Win Shwe and officials briefed the Secretary-1 on functions of the association and progress of works at construction. site of building.

The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions and inspected construction of the buildings.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt went to western stairway of the Shwedagon Pagoda where he inspected the construction of two lion statues at the stairway and left there.

(4) Yangon Command selling meat, fish, eggs at fair prices

YANGON, 15 Mar - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected No 1 Farm of Yangon Command today.

Accompanied by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Vice-Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Director of Supply and Transport Brig-Gen Tin Tun, Captain Naval Staff Capt Kyi Min and Officiating Colonel General Staff (Air) Lt-Col Nyan Tun Aung, the Secretary-2 arrived at the farm in Insein Township, Yangon Division.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and In-charge of the farm Maj Ko Ko Aung briefed him on functions.

The Secretary-2 looked into the requirements.

Yangon Command is raising chicken for meat. Farms at the command and stations are breeding 261,989 chicks, individuals 43,000 and joint-venture farms with CP Group of Thailand 403,675.

The Command is raising 105,569 chicken for eggs. The farms are producing 17,000 viss of meat a 64,400 eggs per week.

The products are being sold at prices below the normal through Taing Shwegon Meat and Vegetables Shop, cold-storage vans and depots.

Shwemayin Fish Farm is breeding 709,570 fish.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected Taing Shwegon Meat and Vegetables Shop near Bus Terminal at Sawbwagyigon.

(5) Chief of Staff (Army) inspects hostels of parade columns

YANGON, 15 Mar - Chairman of leading Committee for Observance of the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected hostels of Tatmadaw parade columns this morning.

The Chief of Staff (Army) arrived at Yangon Division Combined Camp where Kyansittha and Bandoola columns are staying.

He was welcomed by Chairman of Management Committee for Observance of Armed Forces Day Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Chairman of Parade Work Committee Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Vice Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Director of Military Engineers Brig-Gen Win Aung Tint, Director of Supply and Transport Brig-Gen Tin Tun, Parade Commander Brig-Gen Lun Maung and officials.

(6) Minister meets students from Mongla

YANGON, 15 Mar - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt met students from Mongla in Triangle Region Command area at Parahita Tiger School for Development of National Races here this afternoon.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister U Kyaw Tin and officials.

The 41-member group led by U Sai Noon are currently here on study tour at the invitation of the Ministry of Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister urged them to disseminate knowledge gained from the study tour when they arrive back in their region.

The minister presented gifts to the students.

U Sai Noon accepted the gifts on behalf of the group.

Afterwards, the students toured the school.

(7) WHO Regional Director calls on Minister for Health

YANGON, 15 Mar - Dr Uton Muchtar Rafei, WHO Regional Director for South East Asia, called on Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein at his office this afternoon.

They discussed health activities to be jointly carried out by WHO and the ministry.

Also present were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo, heads of departments under the ministry, WHO Resident Representative Dr Klaus Wagner and officials.

Dr Rafei arrived here by air this morning.

He was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo, Dr Klaus Wagner and officials.

(8) YUHMA leaves for Kachin State

YANGON, 15 Mar - A group of mountaineers including teachers and students totaling 20 led by Chairman of Yangon University Hiking and Mountaineering Association U Myo Thant left here by air this morning to scale snow-capped Phonwun Mountain, 11,500 feet high, in Putao, Kachin State.

(9) Minister visits Hinthada Industrial Zone, GTI

YANGON, 15 Mar - Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development Committee Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, accompanied by Deputy Director-General of Myanmar Science and Technology Research Department Dr Chan Nyein and officials, inspected Hinthada Industrial Zone and Hinthada Government Technical Institute yesterday morning.

The minister met Chairman of Hinthada Industrial Zone Work Supervisory Committee Chairman of District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Myint and members and industrialists at the institute.

The minister explained undertakings of the committee and the ministry and measures for the development of human resources.

The industrialists reported on their difficulties and requirements.

The minister fulfilled their requirements.

Next, the minister met service personnel of the institute.

Later, he inspected the institute and gave instructions.

He also inspected industries at the industrial zone.

(10) Winners of Painting and Sculpture Contests announced

YANGON, 15 Mar - Work Committee for the Holding of the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commemorative Poem and Art Contest announced the winners of Painting and Sculpture Contests today.

Prizes will be presented to the first, second and third winners at the National Theatre on 27 March. Special prizes will also be given to the winners at the respective commands and divisions the same day.

Winners of basic education level are to report in person to Director U Thaung Shwe of Basic Education Department not later than 24 March and winners of open division to Secretary U Thant Zin of Myanmar Artists and Artisans Asiayon, 187, East Wing of Bogyoke Market.

(11) Booth of Ministry of Commerce inspected

YANGON, 15 Mar - Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than inspected booth of the Ministry of Commerce for the 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day at the Defence Services Museum this afternoon.

The Minister was welcomed by Deputy Ministers Commodore Myo Tint and Col Kyaw Shwe, the directors-general and managing directors and officials.
