(1) Secretary-1 hosts dinner for Union Day delegates

YANGON, 15 Feb - Chairman of the Central Committee for Observance of the 51st Anniversary Union Day Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt hosted dinner in honour of cultural troupe members and representatives of State/Division Union Solidarity and Development Associations who are the Union Day delegates at the National Indoor Stadium 1 today.

Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt arrived at the National Stadium I at 6.35 pm and was welcomed there by Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than and Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, the Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Yangon Mayor, deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, senior officers of the Ministry of Defence, members of the Central Committee and Management Committee, representatives of Myanmar Thabin, Music and Motion Picture Asiayons and officials.

Later, the Secretary-1 had dinner together with the guests and Union Day delegates.

Artistes of the Fine Arts Department and Myanmar Thabin, Music and Motion Picture Asiayons and nationalities cultural troupes entertained with songs and dances.

(2) Entertainment arranged for Tatmadawmen building Kengtung-Mongphyat-Tachilek Road and local residents

YANGON, 15 Feb - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt addressed a meeting on entertaining the Tatmadawmen building Kengtung-Mongphyat-Tachilek Road and local residents at the Ministry of Defence this morning.

Present were Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, Director-General of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Pe Nyein and department heads, Secretary of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Win Han, chairmen of Myanmar Music Asiayon and Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon and guests.

In his address, Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said Kengtung-Tachilek-Mongphyat Road is being built with the labour of the Tatmadawmen with a view to ensuring smooth and secure transport in the area east of the Thanlwin River, Shan State.

He said the purpose of the meeting is to make arrangements for the entertainment programme with the aim of enabling artistes to meet local people and the Tatmadawmen who are building the road.

The trip is aimed at not only presenting the entertainment programme but also enabling the artistes to see, with their own eyes, efforts made by the Government, the Tatmadaw and local national people in collaboration for the regional development work and the advancement of the social life of local people, he stated and added as, a result, they will gain knowledge of development work in border areas, arrangements for the development of the State and efforts for the elimination of narcotic drugs made by the Government, and will see the way of life of national brethren.

Kengtung-Tachilek-Mongphyat Road is as important as lifeblood for the development of the eastern Thanlwin region, he remarked and called on all to provide all-round assistance for the entertainment programme which will inspire the Tatmadawmen contributing to construction of the road and fulfil the wishes of the local national people.

Lt-Col Win Han explained arrangements for the entertainment programme.

Chairman of MMPA U Sein Tin and Chairman of MMA U Ohn Kyaw reported on the entertainment programme and requirements.

Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and officials also took part in the discussion.

The meeting ended with the concluding remarks by the Secretary-1.

(3) Secretary-l inspects construction projects in Yangon

YANGON, 15 Feb - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected development of Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township, construction of convocation hall of Dagon University International Theravada Buddha Missionary University and reception hall of Yangon International Airport this morning.

The Secretary-l, accompanied by officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, on arrival at Industrial Zone Management Office in Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township, was welcomed by Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, departmental heads, construction entrepreneurs and officials.

Director-General of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw reported on construction of concrete roads in Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township, construction of single unit housing, low-cost housing project, basic education schools, sports ground, gymnasium and harnessing of Bago River.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected construction of new Industrial Zone Management Office and a hall, measures taken for maintenance of Bago River banks, construction of gymnasium and extension of No 1 Basic Education Primary School in Ward 89.

The Secretary-1 and party went to the site of Yuzana Garden City where Chairman of Yuzana Construction Co U Htay Myint reported on implementation.

The Secretary-1 then gave necessary instructions.

They proceeded to office of Dagon University Construction Project where they were welcomed by Deputy Minister for Education Dr Than Nyunt, Rector U Kaung Nyunt and officials.

Senior Engineer U Ye Myint Swe of Public Works and officials reported on construction of lecture halls, convocation hall and gym and greening of its environs.

Deputy Minister Dr Than Nyunt and Rector U Kaung Nyunt reported on academic matters and holding of convocation. The Secretary-1 was conducted round the site.

The Secretary-1 and party went to the site of lecture hall of International Theravada Buddha Missionary University in the precincts of Tooth Relic Pagoda in Mayangon Township.

They were welcomed by Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Secretary of YCEC Col Myint Aung, Director-General of Religious Affairs Department U Ant Maung and officials.

Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa reported on Construction of the main lecture hall and hostels for instructors and trainees, appointment of instructors and cash, U Arnt Maung on organizational setup (draft) of the University and Rector of Yangon University Dr Tin Aung Aye on strength of service personnel.

The Secretary-1 then inspected renovation of the hostels.

He proceeded to Yangon International Airport where he was welcomed by Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and officials.

He inspected renovation of VIP Lounge and construction of reception hall and gave instructions.

(4) K 12m Ngamway Creek Dam inaugurated in Phyu Township to irrigate 500 acres

YANGON, 15 Feb - Ngamway Creek Dam in Phyu Township, Bago Division, was inaugurated this morning with an address by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Also present at the inauguration ceremony were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southern Command Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Director-General of General Administration Department U Aung Thein, Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise U Tin Kha, Deputy Director-General of the State Peace and Development Council Office U Zaw Myint Pe, Acting Director-General of Irrigation Department U Myo Myint, members of Bago Division Peace and Development Council, divisional departmental officials, officials and personnel of Toungoo District, Toungoo, Phyu, Oktwin, Htantabin and Yedashe Townships, the Director and personnel of Irrigation Department Construction Division 1, teachers and pupils, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, members of Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, members of Maternal and Child Welfare Association and local People.

(5) Minister visits filling stations

YANGON, 15 Feb - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thein Aung, Managing Director of Myanma Petroleum Products Enterprise U Aung Hlaing, inspected filling stations No 0261 and 0207 in Sangyoung Township and filling station No 0262 in Ahlon Township today.

The minister attended to the requirements for the convenience of the public for obtaining new gasoline and diesel oil purchase books.

New diesel oil purchase books will be issued at respective filling stations free of charge from 9 to 24 February and those for gasoline beginning 25 February.

(6) Construction of bridges in Bago Division, Mon State inspected

YANGON, 15 Feb - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun and Chief Engineers of Public Works inspected bridge No 2/83 on Mawlamyine-Yay-Myeik-Dawei Road on 13 February.

Senior Engineer U Soe Myint reported on the bridge.

The minister went to the site of Attayan Bridge where Project senior engineer U Tint Lwin reported on progress of work and future tasks.

The minister called for completion of the bridge in time, work site safety, minimizing wastage, durability of the bridge. He then inspected installation of trusses and steel rope.

On 14 February, the minister and Commander of South East Command Brig-Gen Myint Aung observed lifting up of ropes.

The minister went to the site of Gyaing Bridge (Zathabyin) where they were welcomed by Chairman of Kayin State Peace and Development Council Col Saw Khin Soe, Deputy Commander of 22 LID Col Thein Lwin, project senior engineer U Khin Maung Win.

U Khin Maung Win reported on progress of work.

The minister then gave instructions and inspected the site.

(7) Institutes under Ministry of Health inspected

YANGON, 15 Feb - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Director-General of Health Department Dr Hla Myint, acting Director-General of Medical Science Department Dr Myo Myint and officials inspected Institute of Paramedical Science on Thaton Street in Kamayut and Institute of Pharmacy this afternoon.

Rectors Dr Saw Kyaw Aung and U Myint Thein reported on salient points of the institutes, academic matters, training and construction of buildings. The minister fulfilled the requirements.

He then inspected computer unit, laboratory and three-storey hostel under construction.

The minister inspected special hospital in Waibagi, North Okkalapa Township.

He also inspected construction of lecture halls and hostels of Institute of Pharmacy and engineer U Phon Taw reported on progress of work.

(8) Minister for RT tours Padaung Township

YANGON, 15 Feb - Minister for Rail Transportation member of Union Solidarity and Development Association U Pan Aung, accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Railways U Kyaw San and officials, inspected renovation of Shwebonthamuni Pagoda in Padaung Township, Pyay District, on 13 February.

He presented a typewriter donated by the ministry for use at the pagoda all-round renovation office.

He attended an opening ceremony of computer unit of Okshitpin Basic Education High School in Padaung Township, Pyay District, on 14 February.

Meeting Township USDA executives, he spoke of the do's and don'ts for the USDA members and urged them to carry out their tasks dutifully and observe discipline.

He also urged them to lay down plans to train USDA members to be well-qualified and stressed the need for executives to get down to the grassroots level and work for consolidation of national unity.
