(1) Excavation work completed for construction of diversion tunnel of Mone Creek Multi-purpose Dam

YANGON, 8 Feb - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye inspected construction of diversion tunnel of Mone Creek Multi-purpose Dam Project and toured Kyaukkhwet and Letpando Oil Fields today.

He was accompanied by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and departmental officials.

They flew to Bagan-NyaungU this morning.

They were welcomed at Bagan-NyaungU Airport by Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw and officials.

The General and party next helicoptered to Mone Creek Multi-purpose Dam Project in Sedoktara Township, Magway Division.

They were welcomed there by Commander of No 101 Light Infantry Division Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin, Acting Director-General of Irrigation Department U Myo Myint, officials and regional people.

At the project hall, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin briefed the General and party on Mone Creek Multipurpose Dam Project covered by the 19 Special Dam and Reservoir Projects being implemented by Irrigation Department.

Project Director U Myint Than also explained the salient points about the project, construction of the main dam and embankment and progress of work in construction of the diversion tunnel, and Deputy Chief Engineer Dr San Oo of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise the hydro-electric power project.

After giving necessary instructions, General Maung Aye presented gifts for the Tatmadawmen of the project.

They later attended a ceremony to mark completion of excavation for the entire diversion tunnel and they witnessed the heavy machines' tunneling of the last section, the final hurdle for the entire tunnel, 36 feet wide and 3,540 feet long.

General Maung Aye, Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Lt-Gen Win Myint, senior military officers and ministers congratulated Divisional General Manager Mr Shohachiro Sano of Mitsubishi Corporation, President Mr Masayoshi Baba of Furukawa Rock Drill Sales Co Ltd, Director Mr Masafumi Okubo of Sanyu Consultants Inc, General Manager Mr Shuho Yamanokuchi of Mitsubishi Corp and other Japanese technicians for the success.

General Maung Aye and party, together with Japanese entrepreneurs and technicians, took part in the Japanese traditional celebration to mark the successful drilling of rock in the last section of the tunnel.

Japanese technicians presented souvenirs to the General and party who in turn presented fruit basket, to them.

After inspecting the tunnel, the General and party greeted departmental personnel and local people there.

The General and party inspected construction of concrete retaining wall, they had souvenir photos taken together with Myanmar and Japanese technicians.

All-out endeavours are being made for completion of the dam ahead of the schedule.

The General and party next proceeded to Kyaukkhwet Oil Field in Myaing Township where they were welcomed by Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Brig-Gen Soe Win and officials. Minister Brig-Gen Lun Thi briefed them on the locations of Kyaukkhwet, Letpando and Ayadaw Oil Fields and production of oil and natural gas.

Later, the General and party inspected drilling of No 23 Well.

They next went to Letpando Oil Field where they inspected the oil produced from No 14 Well.

No 14 Well, 31,000 feet deep, is producing oil on commercial scale.

(2) Merits shared for completion of all-round renovation of Maha Zeya Atula Marazein Bronze Buddha, tazaung

YANGON, 8 Feb - A merit-sharing ceremony to mark completion of all-round renovation of Maha Zeya Atula Marazein Bronze Buddha Image was held at the tazaung of the pagoda this morning, attended by Patron of the Committee for All-round Renovation of the Pagoda Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were Sayadaws led by the Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Bahan Thettawshay Sayadawgyi, member Sayadaws of the Board of Trustees, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, deputy ministers, Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, Chairman of the Committee for All-round Renovation of the Pagoda Commander of No 3 Military Region Col Saw Hla Min and members, district and township authorities, members of the Board of Trustees and devotees.

(3) Secretary-1 attends to requirements of renovation of basic education schools in Kyauktan

YANGON, 8 Feb - Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt visited Basic Education High School No 2 in Kyauktan Township this morning.

He was accompanied by Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, deputy ministers, officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, department heads and officials.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Minister for Education U Than Aung, deputy ministers, department heads, district and township authorities, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, township education officer, heads of schools, teachers and pupils.

(4) Union Flag conveyed to Thanlyin

YANGON, 8 Feb - The Union Flag which rested at Yangon City Hall for one year was conveyed from the hall to Thanlyin Township this morning under the Union Flag relay programme in four districts in Yangon Division.

The flag has started its journey for holding of the 51st Anniversary Union Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony with the national objectives-all Union nationals to constantly join hands to perpetually safeguard independence and sovereignty, all nationals to unitedly strive for non-disintegration of the Union and non-disintegration of national solidarity, all nationals to work with oneness of mind for emergence of an enduring State Constitution and all nationals to cooperate and strive in harmony and unity in building a peaceful, modern and developed nation.

First, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay took out the Union Flag from the silver bowl in the guest hall of the Mayor after saluting it. The mayor carried the flag flanked by four Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and Police officers and 32 Union nationals to the designated place on Maha Bandoola Street in front of the City Hall with the Myodaw music troupe playing royal drum music and the public saluting it.

The mayor handed over the Union Flag to Chairman of the 51st Anniversary Union Day Observance Management Committee Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than who again handed it over to Chairman of Yangon South District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Ko Gyi.

Lt-Col Ko Gyi carried the flag onto the Union Boat and planted it in the silver bowl at 6.55 am.

The Union Flag, flanked by four Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and Police officers and the Union nationals on the Union Boat, left for Thanlyin Township of Yangon South District along the Maha Bandoola Street, Theinbyu Street, Banyadala Street, East Race Course Road, Thingangyun Road, Waizayanta Road and Ayeyawun Road and it passed through the Yangon-Thanlyin Bridge.

Along the route the Union Flag was accorded rousing welcome by thousands of people and members of Kyauktada, Botahtaung, Mingala Taungnyunt, Tamway, Thingangyun, Dawbon, Thakayta and Thanlyin Township Peace and Development Councils members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, members of Myanmar Police Force, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade, members of Maternal and Child Welfare Association, teachers and students and departmental personnel waving the miniature flags and putting up banners across the roads.

When the Union Boat arrived at Thanlyin Bridge Lt-Col Ko Gyi took out the flag from the silver bowl on the decorated float and flanked by four Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and Police officers and the Union nationals he carried and handed it over to Chairman of Thanlyin Township Peace and Development Council U Aye Kyaw Maung.

The Union Flag was conveyed by 23 relay teams of Thanlyin Township Immigration and Population Department, Township Education Department, Fire Brigade, high schools, footwear factory No 3, Yangon South District USDA, oil refinery, glassware factory, Township Red Cross Brigade, YSN garment factory, Township Health Department, garment factory No 4 and No 5, Kyauktan Township USDA and District General Administration Department to Thihadipa Sports Ground where leader of flag relay team Deputy Commissioner of Yangon South District GAD U Kyaw Nyunt handed the flag to Lt-Col Ko Gyi.

Lt-Col Ko Gyi carried it, flanked by Union nationals and planted it in the silver bowl on the stage at 8.45 am.

Guard of Honour of Yangon Command saluted the flag to the strains of the national anthem of the Union of Myanmar played by Yangon Command Military Band.

Local people of Yangon South District also saluted the flag at Thihadipa Sports Ground where it will rest for one night.

There are showrooms of Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, oil refinery, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information and shops of garment factories at the sports ground which was illuminated.

(5) Minister inspects fresh-water lobster and pig breeding stations

YANGON, 8 Feb - Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein together with Deputy Minister U Aung Thein and officials, arrived at fresh- water lobster breeding station of Asia-tha International Ltd at Samalauk Village in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division, this morning.

Managing Director of Asia-tha International Ltd Daw Lay Lay Khaing and officials briefed the minister on prawn breeding.

The minister gave necessary instructions.

The minister and party inspected prawn breeding.

They proceeded to ShwemokeU private pig breeding farm on Yangon-Pathein Road in Yangon Division where officials briefed the minister on their activities.

Managing Director of Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise U Maung Maung Nyunt also briefed the minister who gave the suggestions.

Then, U Hlaing Myint Oo of ShwemokeU pig breeding farm presented K 30,000 for the staff welfare society of LFDPE to Managing Director U Maung Maung Nyunt.

The minister and party inspected the. breeding station.

(6) Deputy Minister for F & R tours Maubin

YANGON, 8 Feb - Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun met officials and personnel of the departments under the ministry in Maubin yesterday.

Also present were General Manager of Myanma Economic Bank U Tin Win, Chairman of District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col J Han Shein and departmental officials.

He later inspected offices of Myanma Economic Bank, Internal Revenue Department, Myanma Insurance, Myanma Small Loans Department and the agricultural development banks.

Meeting personnel at respective departments, he explained the guidance of the Head of State and policies.

(7) Minister for RT inspects bridges, rail tracks

YANGON, 8 Feb - Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Railways U Kyaw San and officials, inspected conditions of bridges and rail tracks between Abya Railway Station in Waw Township and Sittoung Bridge on 6 and 7 February.

He gave necessary instructions to divisional and regional officials.

(8) Minister for Commerce inspects 100-ton Rice Mill in Thanlyin

YANGON, 8 Feb - Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Commerce Col Kyaw Shwe, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading U Saw Aung and officials, arrived at No 242 100-ton Rice Mill in Thanlyin Township this afternoon.

They were welcomed there by General Manager of MAPT U Moe Paw, Yangon Division Manager U Maung Maung Tin, Assistant Division Manager U Ba Than and officials.

First, Assistant Division Manager U Ba Than briefed the Minister on paddy purchase, milling capacity and production.

The Minister gave instructions on purchase of paddy to exceed the target this year, milling paddy of high quality, maintenance of rice mill, minimising wastage, sanitation of rice mill, security and fire prevention.

Then, the minister and party inspected the mill and looked into the requirement.
