(1) Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt receives Adviser and party of Marubeni Corporation

YANGON, 5 Feb - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Adviser Mr Kazuo Haruna and party of Marubeni Corporation of Japan at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 4 pm today.

Present also were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Brig-Gen Abel and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department.

The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar Mr Yoichi Yamaguchi.

(2) Over K 91.6 million for construction of Maha Thanti Thukha Buddha Sasana Penang Singapore Kyaungtaik

YANGON, 5 Feb - The fourth donation ceremony for the construction of Maha Thanti Thukha Buddha Sasana Penang Singapore Kyaungtaik was held at the Kyaungtaik in Natchaung Ward, Tamway Township, this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Present also were Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Labour Vice-Admiral Tin Aye, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, heads of departments, chairmen and members of Yangon East District and Tamway Township Peace and Development Councils, Secretary and EC members of Tamway Township Union Solidarity and Development Association, well-wishers, departmental officials and guests.

Col Saw Myint (Retired) explained about the construction of the Kyaungtaik and progress of work.

Well-wishers donated K 16,933,123 for the construction of Maha Thanti Thukha Buddha Sasana Penang Singapore Kyaungtaik today.

Today's donations include; K 10 million by Yangon City Development Committee, K 2 million by Department for Human Settlement and Housing Development, K 2 million by construction entrepreneurs, K 200,000 by Ministry of Commerce, K 500,000 by U Kyaw Win of Shwethanlwin Construction, 14 50(),000 by U Khin Shwe of Zekaba Co, K 500,000 by U Aung Htwe of Golden Flower Co Ltd, K 500,000 by Township Executive Offices of YCDC, K 102, 614 by Internal Revenue Office (Headquarters) and K 100,000 by Managing Director Office of the Myanma Railway, K 100,000 by Daw Khin Myint and family of Pyay Road, K 200,509 by 10 well-wishers, K 130,000 by Yangon East District Peace and Development Council Office and K 100,000 by Exe Asia (Exe Design) Co Ltd.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and Chairman of Work Committee for the Construction of Maha Thanti Thukha Buddha Sasana Penang Singapore Kyaungtaik Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour.

Col Saw Myint (Retired) thanked the officials.

After the ceremony, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, ministers and deputy ministers inspected the scale model and Maha Thanti Thukha Buddha Sasana Penang Singapore Kyaungtaik being constructed by Asia World Co Ltd and gave instructions to officials.

Donations amounting to K 91,655,699, US $ 2,520 and one air-conditioner valued at K 30,000 have been received to date.

(3) Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ottama of Thailand concludes visit

YANGON, 5 Feb - Sayadaw Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Ottama of Wiwaikayama Kyaung, Winka, Thailand, left here for home by air this evening at the conclusion of his visit to Myanmar.

Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt was among the devotees who paid respects and saw the Sayadaw off at Yangon International Airport.

Others who paid farewell respects to the Sayadaw were Director-General of Religious Affairs Department U Arnt Maung, Director-General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin and the Sayadaw's disciples.

The Sayadaw visited Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State, Shin Saw Pu Pagoda in Kyaikmaraw, Kyaikkhami Pagoda in Kyaikkhami Township and Kyaikkhaylatha Hsandawshin Pagoda in Ye Township, during his stay in Myanmar.

He also attended a ceremony to donate an ordination hall and a dhammayon at Thumingalayamika Kyaung, Mawhkanin village, Ye Township.

(4) MIC Chairman Deputy Premier receives Adviser of Marubeni Corporation

YANGON, 5 Feb - Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Adviser Mr Kazuo Haruna and party of Marubeni Corporation of Japan at his office at 3 pm today.

Present also were Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials.

(5) Minister inspects training school of DAD

YANGON, 5 Feb - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, accompanied by Deputy Minister U Kyaw Tin and officials, inspected the training school of Development Affairs Department in Ward 51, Dagon Myothit (North), yesterday.

He gave instructions to officials.

The minister also inspected staff quarters of the department next to the training school and gave instructions on planting shade trees and flowers on the campus of the school.

(6) Ambassador of Vietnam, Chairman of Seoul Mobile Telecom Inc call on Minister for CPT

YANGON, 5 Feb - Ambassador of Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa called on Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin at his office at 2.40 pm today.

Similarly, Chairman Mr Lee Bong Hoon and party of Seoul Mobile Telecom Inc of Republic of Korea called on the minister at his office at 3 pm today.

Present also were Managing Director Col Maung Maung Tin of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and officials.

(7) Four-monthly meeting of Ministry of A & I concludes

YANGON, 5 Feb - The third four-monthly meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation ended today at Myanma Farms Enterprise with concluding remarks by Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin.

He called for efforts to ensure sufficient production of crops region-wise, to work in accord with the principles and for the success of the ministry's tasks.

Personnel of the ministry should strive with their utmost in dutifully expediting their tasks and should present their requirements in time, he stressed.

Heads of departments presented accomplishments and requirements sector vise.

Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Khin Maung presented office management, employees' welfare programmes and land reclamation projects.

The minister looked into their requirements.

The Chairman of State/Division Agriculture Coordination Committees and officials were also present.

(8) Junior naval officers urged to observe discipline exemplarily

YANGON, 5 Feb - The Graduating Parade of the Naval Junior Executive Officer Course No 1/97 and the Naval Junior Engineer Course No 1/97 and 2/97 was held at the parade grounds of the Naval Training Command Headquarters this morning.

On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein delivered an address.

Also present were Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Military Appointment-General Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Judge Advocate-General Maj-Gen Than Oo, Defence Services Inspector-General Brig-Gen Win Myint, Chief of the Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Commandant of the National Defence College Maj-Gen San Aung, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Director of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Brig-Gen Aung Hlaing, commanders of the naval commands, Acting Commander of the Naval Training Command Cmdr Soe Thein, military officers, relatives of the graduating junior officers and guests.

(9) Alfa Hotel staff families submit USDA membership applications

YANGON, 5 Feb - Hailing 53rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day, membership applications for Union Solidarity and Development Association were collectively presented at Alfa Hotel No 41 on Nawaday Street, Dagon Township, at 1 pm today.

The ceremony was attended by Secretary-General of USDA U Than Aung, member of Secretariat U Ko Lay, Central Executive Committee members U Than Shwe, U Aung Thaung and U Aung Khin, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Sein, Acting Secretary of Yangon Division USDA U Tha Win and executive U Tin Maung Win, Chairman of State Peace and Development Council U Than Win, Secretary of Township USDA U Khin Hlaing Tun and executives and applicants.

First, Daw Sein Sein presented membership applications, on behalf of 140 applicants, to U Than Shwe.

Vice-Chairman of Alfa Hotel U Maung Maung Lwin briefed them on the presentation of membership applications.

Then, U Than Aung expressed thanks.

Later, U Maung Maung Lwin presented K 100,000 donated by staff families of the hotel to U Aung Khin.

(10) Minister for Foreign Affairs sends felicitations to New Zealand

YANGON, 6 Feb - On the occasion of the anniversary of the National Day of New Zealand, which falls on 6 February 1998, U Ohn Gyaw, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Don McKinnon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand.

(11) Yuzana Hotel families host dinner for F&R soccer team

YANGON, 5 Feb - Yuzana Hotel families today hosted dinner in honour of Finance & Revenue soccer team which will take part in quarterfinal round-robin matches of the 1 7th Asian Club Soccer Championship at the hotel.

It was also attended by Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun, Director-General of Customs Department U Tun Chun, officials and guests.

Speaking at the dinner, the deputy minister told the officials and players of the team to strive for success with sporting spirit as the soccer team represents not only the ministry but also the State.

He also said all people were pleased with the victory of the soccer team in recent matches with Saunders of Sri Lanka and Dong Thap of Vietnam for the championship, urging them to do their best for ensuring a berth in the finals.

(12) Meeting discusses holding religious title conferring ceremony

YANGON, 5 Feb - A meeting was held today at the Ministry of Religious Affairs to discuss conferring of religious titles to recipient Sayadaws and offering of dry rations at the ceremony sponsored by the ministry.

Present were Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Minister U Aung Khin, Director-General of Religious Affairs Department U Arnt Maung, Directors of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana, Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col San Matu, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt Col Maung Maung Sein, Lt-Col Zaw Win of Yangon Command, heads of departments and other officials.

Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa gave a speech, stressing the need to strive for the success of the ceremony.

Deputy Minister U Aung Khin, Director-General U Arnt Maung and Lt-Col San Matu briefed the meeting on plans sector-wise.

Participants gave suggestions.

The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the minister.
